Parking Lot Safety
We want to thank everyone for being patient with us while we worked out the dismissal kinks that go along with the first couple of days of a new school year. By Thursday of this week most of the kinks had been worked out.
Safety Measures
We want to remind everyone that enters the DEE parking lot to please be patient and mindful of people getting out of their cars, especially with little ones, that may be walking to the door. We want to make sure the parking lot is safe for people on foot and those in their cars.
Thank you for your assistance ensuring safety for all Explorers!

Character Trait for September is RESPECT
A great way to help STOMP bullying is to treat everyone with respect. Respect is our character trait for the month of September. The dictionary defines it as the value of admiring another person for who they are and what they do. The definition we are using in class is Respect: seeing good in people and things (and treating them with care).
Respect is both a perspective and a practice. What does it mean to “see good” in people? Oftentimes this requires us to learn more about who they are, where they come from, and why they believe and act the way they do. Respect is about understanding people! Respect is also about action; how we speak to and treat one another (and ourselves) respectfully is a constant practice.
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period
Appointments & Dismissal Changes
If your student is taking a different route of transportation after school than their normal dismissal, to ensure the safety of your child, you must call the front office to let them know. 253.891.4500. We ask that you call before 2:30 pm as this helps get all our changes to the teachers in a timely manner.
If you plan to take your student out for an appointment or out early before dismissal time at 3:45 pm, please call us a few minutes before you arrive so we can greet you! We do ask that you have your ID ready to go when you pick up your student. Our office staff will gladly call your student down so that they are ready when you arrive on campus.
Counselor’s Corner!
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Donald Eismann Elementary! I am looking forward to working with you and your student(s) during their time in elementary school! As your school counselor, I have a lot of great things planned for families and students.
School counselors take on many different roles within a school. My duties include classroom guidance lessons, small group and individual counseling, as well as consultation with parents, teachers, and administrators. Our goal is for all students to develop socially, emotionally, and academically, and we strive to create a safe and positive environment in which all students can accomplish this.
School counselors work with students for a variety of reasons, including: academic concerns, post-secondary planning, personal struggles, mental health concerns, peer issues and positive behavior interventions. I can also assist our families in times of hardship, as we have access to many community resources. As a counselor, I am dedicated to helping all children succeed in school and life. School counseling programs reach and meet the needs of all students in various ways including those listed above. I am extremely excited to have become a part of the Donald Eismann family, and look forward to working within the wonderful environment they’ve created. Be on the lookout for the Counselor’s Corner in the DEE monthly newsletter for more helpful information.
Please contact me if I can ever be of assistance. I look forward to serving you and your student(s)!
The character trait this month is Respect: seeing value in all people and things and treating them with respect.
Looking to the future:
I will be teaching a Hassarassment, Intimidation and Bullying lesson to all K-5 students the week of 9/12. Teachers will begin teaching Second Step lessons on bullying prevention and social emotional learning the week of 9/19, and continue weekly from then on. Be on the lookout for letters &/or emails sent home that contain information on the lessons being taught and home links to complete activities with your student(s) from home.
The first week was wonderful and we can’t wait to see them all next week!
Please reach out if you have any thoughts or questions.
Kindest regards,
Dani Steele
