Dear Mary Hogan Families,

It has been another busy week here at Mary Hogan with so much fun learning. It was the Week of the Young Child and our preschoolers were celebrating all week long - from Music Monday and drumming in the library to Animal Dancing on Friday evening. The week celebrated so many of the beautiful pieces of being young and learning and exploring. I was a gift to be part of it!

Other highlights of the week included:

  • Jeh Kulu's return to Mary Hogan thanks to the generosity of you and MESA,
  • 2nd graders explored the history and force of water in downtown Middlebury, and
  • Chicks hatched in Preschool!

One more week til vacation. I can't wait to see what it brings us for learning and fun!

💙, Jen

Week of the Young Child Week of the Young Child

The Week of the Young Child was so much fun for Mary Hogan preschoolers! On Monday, they got to drum in the library. On Tuesday, they walked down to Crooked Ladle and had lunch at a real restaurant (and got some cookies!). On Wednesday, they worked with students from the Hannaford Career Center to make birdhouses. On Thursday, they painted the birdhouses. Then on Friday, the preschoolers celebrated with their families at a dance and dinner date at school. Here are some photos from the week!

Jeh Kulu Returns Jeh Kulu Returns

zoom_out_map

We were so lucky that MESA was able to fund Jeh Kulu coming back to Mary Hogan for 2 more days of dancing this spring. The students loved dancing the first time they came and wanted more chances to dance.

Thanks to the money that MESA raised from you and local organizations, they were able to fund two more days. We are so lucky that MESA is able to provide this enrichment for our students and I am hopeful that if you haven't donated for the Readathon or another reason that you would consider donating today to help make things like Jeh Kulu (and so many more awesome trips and experiences) happen for our students. Thanks, everyone!

You can donate in many ways. Here are some: Venmo @MESAMaryHoganSchool, PayPal (link: Donate (paypal.com) or leave a check in the front office.

Water in Middlebury Water in Middlebury

As part of their inquiry unit into how the world works, 2nd graders explored the falls in the middle of Middlebury on a walking field trip. They had a chance to be thinkers and reflect on how humans have used water over time in our town as well as how water has changed the landscape. It was a great trip on a frosty but clear morning.

Spotlight on Reagan Murphy

We are so lucky to have Reagan at Mary Hogan this spring. She has been filling in for Jena Hogan who is out with her new baby. Reagan is currently enrolled in a Master of Arts program, majoring in school counseling. She has a wealth of experience in social services, specifically supporting youth and schools. Her experiences best serve her in providing emergency support and crisis intervention as well as designing and teaching curriculum that matches high school and elementary age students through mentoring programs. Welcome, Reagan!

5th Grade Messages in a Bottle

Tina and Reagan are working on the Child Protection Unit and are very excited about all the upcoming events for fifth graders. We will be coordinating with all elementary school counselors collecting a Message in a Bottle where students share introductions, their school site, and one thing they are most excited about for middle school. These messages will then be exchanged across our entire district, allowing fifth graders to connect with peers from different schools!

We can't wait to share a district-wide map of ACSD, showing eah fifth grader where their message received originated from. Stay tuned for more updates!
