LPES Virtual Backpack #2
August 21, 2026
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It has been so wonderful seeing so many smiling faces throughout the building! We have had a great start to the school year, and it has been especially fun watching our students settle in, reconnect with friends, and get back into the routines of school.
This week, we had our first schoolwide challenge centered around the question: “What can I do to make today better?” It was so much fun talking with students and hearing the many different ways they chose to make their day and someone else’s day a little better. We are excited to continue building on this positive mindset throughout the year!
As we ease back into the school year, we have a few friendly reminders:
Car Line
- Please pull all the way forward and continue down the car line as far as you can toward Harvest Gate.
- Please stay behind the car in front of you and do not pull around other vehicles.
- Parents remain in the car.
- If your child needs assistance getting out of the car, please park in a designated parking spot so you can safely assist them.
Changes to Dismissal
- If your child’s dismissal plan changes, please make sure to notify the office.
- Please clearly indicate whether your child will be a car rider, walker, or bus rider.
- Walkers are dismissed and picked up at Door 8.
New District 300 Elementary Family FAQ
We are excited to introduce a new Elementary Family FAQ designed to provide quick answers to many of the questions families commonly have throughout the school year. The FAQ includes information on topics such as attendance, arrival and dismissal procedures, lunch, birthdays, visitors, transportation, and more.
To make information easy to find and ensure it stays up to date, the FAQ is available on the District website and can also be accessed from our school's About page.
View the Elementary Family FAQ here:https://www.d300.org/about/elementary-faq
We encourage all families to bookmark this resource for easy reference throughout the school year.
Sincerely,
Emily Varghese

Attendance Incentives
Present Potatoes
Each week, classrooms that achieve a 95% attendance rate or higher will earn a potato piece to add to their classroom potato.
When a class’s potato is 50% completed, they will earn a classroom reward of their choice.
When their potato is 100% full, the class will earn another celebration and be crowned the “Present Potato” of the week!
Full Nest
Full Nest: Each classroom has their own Hawk's Nest. The tree holds ten hawk nests, and each time everyone in the class is in attendance they can fill in one of the nests. Once all ten nests are filled in, the class receives a large hawk feather, and a reward of their choice.
Book Vending Machine
Please consider donating a book to the Book Vending Machine. For this initiative, students set academic or behavioral goals with their teachers and when they meet those goals, they earn the opportunity to choose their own book from the vending machine.
