Mr. Hilton's Highlights
We're Off To A Great Start!
Hello:
What a great start to the year! The students have done an amazing job and with this start, I know it is going to be a great year!
Our school day begins at 7:50 a.m., which means students must be in their classroom by 7:50. Car rider drop-off will begin at 7:35 a.m. Please do not bring your child to the office before 7:35, as there is no supervision available. Car rider drop-off and pick-up take place at Door #1. For safety, please remain in your car and follow the car line instead of walking your child to the building. If you need to come in for another reason, you may park and walk your child into the office. If you arrive after 7:45, please park in front of the building and walk your child into the main office and check them in.
Lunch has gone very well during the first three days! Students are learning the procedures and doing a great job. We are excited to invite parents to join their child for lunch after Labor Day, giving students time to become comfortable with the routines and expectations. Lunch is also a great opportunity for students to practice social skills that we are working on. If you join your child for lunch, they may invite a friend to sit with you. We do ask that parents not share food with students. We have many food allergies in our school and want to make sure all students remain safe.
If you plan to come in for lunch you will need to have your SafeVisitor background check. If you have not filled one out yet you can find information here. You WILL NOT be allowed to have lunch in the cafeteria with your child if you do not have a background check on file.
If your child’s classroom has a snack time, we ask that it does not contain any nuts. Many of our students have peanut and tree nut allergies, and cross-contamination can easily happen. While we have nut-free tables available at lunch, this is not possible in the classroom. If you have any questions about this policy, please let me know.
Unfortunately, the tremendous amount of rain delayed the completion of the playground, but we are very close to having it finished. The construction team is confident that it will be ready for students on Monday. We currently have a fence around the playground, and next week they will begin installing another fence between the parking lot and U.S. 31. In October, the state is expected to begin installing a 20-foot-tall concrete noise barrier along U.S. 31. The barrier will run the entire length of our property and is expected to be completed by the middle of January.

Have a great weekend,
Andy

Safe Visitor Background Checks
Planning to Volunteer? Get Ready Now!
If you think you may want to volunteer, help with a classroom party, join your child for lunch, or chaperone a field trip this year, now is a great time to complete your background check.
Westfield Washington Schools uses SafeVisitor for visitor management and background checks. Because the approval process can take 3–6 business days, completing your background check now will help ensure you're ready when an opportunity comes up. The $12.95 background check is valid for four years and can be used at any WWS school.
Don't wait until the field trip permission slip comes home—check this one off your back-to-school list now!
Protect the Tech
Chromebook Protection Plan
Families of students in grades 3–12 can purchase optional Chromebook protection through K12 Tech for $23 per student. While the plan is not required, it is highly recommended since Chromebook repairs can be costly.
The plan covers accidental damage throughout the school year with no deductible and includes multiple damage incidents.
Please note: Students in Kindergarten–2nd grade do not need to purchase the protection plan.
