Key Project Updates
In 2020, the city was awarded $500K from Saving America's Treasures, matched with $500K from CIP sales tax for needed repairs to the Hall of Waters. The scope of work included: Water Bar sub-structural, tower rehab, north & west exterior (sealants, repointing, cleaning, stone replacement/repair, repair lintels), replace damaged cast stone units on guardrails, spot repoint, north/west entrance restoration, & misc. repair. The project was scheduled to be completed by mid-2022.
However, during design, structural engineers discovered damage under water bar/pool ceiling had accelerated & the Water Bar needs to be dismantled to remove damage & restore it. Structural engineers expressed damage to support columns in sub-basement requires immediate attention. These columns are load bearing providing support to roof above the water bar. SAT Grant approved re-direction of funds to address these concerns & we are preparing to seek bids in the next few weeks. We are disappointed the work requested in the initial grant application will not occur, funds may not be sufficient to restore the water bar & additional funds will be needed to address imminent concerns in the front yard of the Hall. The need to remove humidity from the sub-basement to arrest ongoing damage will also need to be addressed. One possible solution under discussion for the front yard is to remove the soil & ceiling of the tank room which is under the front yard & leave it in an excavated state. To do nothing puts the front porch at risk of being pulled away from the building if the front yard collapses. We are acting to mitigate further damage whenever possible.
We can re-apply for another SAT Grant when the current project is complete, possibility in 2023 or 2024, to seek funds for the initial scope of work.
