GLOBE in the News
August 24, 2026
Dear GLOBE community,
You may see The GLOBE Academy’s name mentioned in local media over the coming days and I wanted to share the good news with you regarding a recent settlement made with DeKalb County School District.
After six years of litigation, GLOBE, together with six other charter schools in DeKalb County, have reached an agreement with the DeKalb County School District to resolve longstanding disputes regarding funding.
Back in 2022, the trial court sided with the charter schools on five of their six claims. The court found that the District had breached its contracts with the schools by withholding funding required by law. You can read about that in a previous communication here. In 2023, the Georgia Court of Appeals affirmed the decision. The Georgia Supreme Court declined review.
The Fulton County Superior Court then set a trial to determine the amounts owed to the charter schools. After extensive negotiations, all parties reached a resolution just a few weeks short of the July 6 trial calendar date.
The money received from this settlement will not be used in GLOBE’s 2026/27 budget. Following what was a lengthy drawn-out litigation process, school administration plans to assess various options for how the funds will be allocated. Any final decisions will be put to a vote by GLOBE’s Board of Directors.
We are delighted with the resolution and believe it reinforces the importance of collaboration and mutual respect to better serve all students across DeKalb County. We look forward to working alongside the District going forward to continue providing high-quality educational opportunities.
In community,
Christi Elliott-Earby
Executive Director
