Sorry Guys...We Can't All Be Parents Of The Year
Good Evening Patriots,
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are ready for another week of school that is getting us closer to summer. These next three weeks are going to FLY by, so put your seatbelts on and hold on for a quick ride.
Lately, as we are coming to the end of the 14-year marathon of getting our Senior son to the graduation finish line and reflecting on all of the road bumps, parenting potholes, and full-on reroutings we have had to do over the last eighteen years, I realized I had forgotten to share with you one of my final crowing parenting accomplishments.
For all of you that are in the thick of the parenting marathon, here is my one piece of unsolicited parenting advice.
When the difficult times come, and I guarantee they will.
Hit the pause button.
Breathe, and look around until you can find ANYTHING funny about the situation.
Like gathering people around a table for a meal, laughter is a natural connector and comforter for your heart.
The more you can be comfortable with laughing at yourself, the more you will invite people to laugh when their human slips out as well.
With that...Enjoy my Parent of the Year moment!
As always Patriots...
Remember
You ARE L❤️VED!!!

How to Get Parent of the Year...
In case you are the betting type and religious about keeping score, I feel obliged to tell you I am currently in first place with a commanding lead in the race for the coveted Mom of the Year title.
At this point, I am sure you are asking yourself how I have pulled so far ahead in the race...
Allow me to share…
Joe ( Our THIRD out of our FOUR children, NOT including the NINE Refugee foster children, so it is important to note this is not our first kid rodeo.) had his senior night for wrestling at Providence Hall. This was our first Senior night event and the first time I had ever been asked to make a poster celebrating our son for any of our kids.
( For the record, I am LEVEL -5,000 crafty)
The very organized and seasoned wrestling parents created a lovely Google Drive for everyone to share photos of the kids, so I had AMPLE pictures of Joe to choose from.
GENIUS!!!
Steps followed to create the Senior Night poster.
1- Go to the store the day before due and buy the only poster board available.
2-Step two make a PowerPoint using the pics of Joe from the Google Photos drive and make it look fancy.
3-Not make the poster the night before like a responsible adult knows one should do. Rationalized because I knew I would have ample time after work.
4-Unexpectedly, but in my profession should be expected, I end up having to work way later than anticipated.
5-Work finished, with 15 minutes to construct a poster.
6-Make it over to senior night and set the poster up, thinking it’s not too shabby for 15 mins and having ZERO cute crafting skills.
7- Approximately ten minutes later
Having the team members start walking by the table to see the pics.
8-One team member stops to look and the poster, and while looking, I notice him cocking his head to the side.
9- Said team member then turns to all the other team members, including Joe, and says, “Ummmm, why is my picture on Joe’s poster?”
10~ I step in and assure him that the boy pictured is Joe. To which the entire team responds, roaring in laughter, “ Nope, that is NOT Joe!!!” Then they say, “Joe, come look at this Max is on your Senior poster because your mom thought it was you.”
11- More laughter.
12-Me hanging my head, half laughing and half crying, knowing I am blind as a bat, but this is a whole new level of mistake, failure and embarrassment resulting from my lack of vision.
13- Me doing the only thing I can do at this point… “Welcome to the family Max. I guess you have been adopted.”
14-Joe gives me a hug laughing and assuring me it is okay.
15-Me making a mental note to have all of my future important creations spot checked by someone who can recognize their own kids.

What followed was an unintended and HILARIOUS lesson on how difficult carrying a bundle of joy can be.
Some of the comedy gold comments were...
"I don't think my baby likes working out!!!"
"At least this will reduce my labor time."
"Okay, miss. I see you. I will never get pregnant!!!"
The laughter coming from the classroom was exactly what a lot of us needed that day.
