Wakefield February Board Report
November 2024
Comments from the Principal
January was a busy month at our school, marked by multiple assessments in Math, English, and Science for our students.
Our elementary students reached two exciting milestones: celebrating 100 days of school and observing Kansas Day. A highlight of the Kansas Day celebration was the outstanding performance of the Kansas Day Play by Mrs. Ehlers' 3rd-grade class.
Unfortunately, the widespread illness affecting the State has taken a toll on our students and staff. We are taking proactive measures to minimize the spread of germs, but many in our community have been impacted by this outbreak.
On a brighter note, our varsity boys basketball team achieved a thrilling victory, breaking a 49-game losing streak by defeating Centre in the Centre Tournament.

The USD 379 Bus Barn has started a bus behavior campaign for the second semester. Each driver nominates a regular rider who exemplifies good behavior and shows respect for both the driver and the other passengers. All nominees were put in a hat, and one name was drawn as January's winner. That student is Bristol from Wakefield Elementary! Her driver is Maurice Sharp. Bristol received gift certificates donated by Short Stop and Ray's Apple Market.
For its second tournament of the season, Bomber Forensics competed at the “David Mr. Bill Williams Forensics Invitational” in Newton, Kansas. The team competed against 31 schools from every division in the state. The Bombers broke two events to the semi-finals! Here are the placings:

Aubrey Vlasak: (Semi-Finalist) Program of Oral Interpretation 8th, Oral Interpretation of Poetry 40th
Susan Tyrell: Oral Interpretation of Prose 18th

Both CCCHS and WHS students attended the 2025 Kansas Healthcare Virtual Career Day. More than 4,000 students from 200 schools across Kansas attended the online event. Students could choose which area of health care they were interested in, and then they connected virtually with a professional in that area. Our very own Clay County Medical Center Behavioral Health professionals were even one of the presenters! It was a great opportunity to help our students get more information in deciding their future.
6th graders in Mrs. Bybee's class are escaping the Distributive Property World! She created an Escape Room based on math questions they have been working on this week.
