Garden Help Needed π±
Do you have experience with irrigation or small garden improvements? We could use your help! Our 2nd grade teachers are specifically hoping to add automatic watering and improve the wooden beds and make them higher. At this time we do not have a budget for these improvements. If you can help with this, please email Amy Amaral (aamaral@buckeyeusd.org) and/or Melanie Freeland (mfreeland@buckeyeusd.org). We would LOVE to increase our garden participation across other grades but need much needed improvements to support the expansion.
Seeking a Basketball Coach π
We have one basketball coach ready to go - thank you Charles Ware for being willing to coach either team! We need one more coach so that we can have a girl's and boy's team. The season runs from November to February and there is a stipend of $1,599 for coaching this year. If you are interested in coaching either team, please email Amy Pirkl at apirkl@buckeyeusd.org and complete the application at this link. Feel free to share with any young adults or older siblings who may be interested in this as well.
Meet the Masters Fundraiser Pick Up πͺ
If your child sold items through the Meet the Masters fundraiser, please plan to pick up items in the MP room from late morning until 3pm on Friday, October 24th. Items need to be picked up by 3pm that day as we do not have the storage capacity for perishable items or volunteers to distribute beyond that date. Thank you to everyone who participated in this event! We were able to raise $4,000 for Meet the Masters.

Attendance Questions Answered
1. What is considered an Excused Absence?
By law [EC Β§ 48205], excused absences are: illness [(fever 100Β° or more, persistent runny nose (not allergy related), vomiting, diarrhea, medical/dental appointments (doctorβs note required for verification)], death in the family, specific religious reasons, required appearance in court, and exclusion from school for contagious disease.
2. What can I do if my child needs to be out of school for a length of time?
If your child must go out of town for three (3) or more days, you may request that your child is signed up for an Independent Study Contract. Please note that teachers need at least one weekβs notice in order to prepare materials without interrupting their instructional time.
3. I called in to verify my child's absence; why am I still getting truancy letters?
Unless the absence was for an excused reason (those stated in point #1), the absence is considered unexcused and truancy letters will be sent in accordance with Education Code of the State of California [EC Β§ 48260-48273]. Ed Code states that any pupil who is absent from school for 3 days or more without a valid excuse (reasons specified in point #1), or tardy in excess of 30 minutes or more, is considered truant.
