January 17, 2023

Good Morning Memorial Families,

We hope that the long weekend was a good one! It was nice to wake up to a small amount of snow accumulation on the ground yesterday. What a strange winter it has been so far.

As part of our continued emergency safety drills, we will be engaging in another lockdown practice later this week. As part of this drill, we will do a partial evacuation of the building, similar to when we do a fire evacuation. As always, we work closely with our town emergency personnel to ensure that we are taking all of the necessary precautions for safety. MURSD along with the Mendon and Upton police departments will be holding a parent safety information night on Wednesday, January 25th from 7:00-8:00pm. This is a great opportunity for you to meet the School Resource Officers that represent Mendon and Upton and learn more about our current safety protocols. This is also a great opportunity to ask questions regarding school safety.

If you have an incoming Kindergarten student in the fall, or if you know someone who does, please plan to join us on Wednesday, January 25th at 6:00pm for our Kindergarten information night in the Memorial cafeteria. We will provide an overview of kindergarten, give parents and caregivers tips on how to best prepare your child for the transition, and provide information on registration. We will also touch upon our Spanish Immersion program option. If you have an interest in learning more about Spanish Immersion, you should also mark your calendars for February 2nd for a virtual information session all about our Spanish Immersion program. More information is coming soon.

A great thank you to our PTO for funding so many curriculum enhancements this month. We are going to be able to purchase more books, flexible seating, and curriculum tools for classrooms. We are also very excited to have a new bin full of playground equipment for our students as we roll out some new organization for recess time this next month. Thank you all for supporting our school and providing us with resources to best meet the needs of our learners!

Have a wonderful week!

Warmly,

Lauren and Wendy
