MHS Students and Families -

This is a reminder about Prom with important details you need to know. Please read thoroughly if you plan to attend. Marshall High School Prom is Saturday, April 25th from 8-11pm and will be held at Waterloo Fireman’s Park Pavilion.

A reminder of the expectations for prom which are listed below:

In order to be eligible to attend school dances a student must meet the following requirements in the semester in which the dance is held:

-No more than 2 behavioral referrals (this includes referrals for skipping class)

-No 0’s in any assessed standards within 1 week of the event

-A student may file a written appeal with the Principal and Dean of Students if there are extenuating circumstances.

-MHS students must be regularly attending school and be in good standing academically to attend dances.

-Doors will be closed for admittance 60 minutes after the start of the dance.

-Any student who attends a school sponsored function under the influence of, and/or in possession of alcohol, tobacco and/or controlled substances will be subject to the same penalties as a regular school day incident which can include suspension and/or expulsion. Subsequent offenses will result in progressive discipline.

-Purses, bags, jackets, pockets, etc will be searched upon entry to ensure a safe and drug-free environment for all students.

-Students can also be referred to the police for additional charges.

-Non-students of MHS, attending dances, must have a visitor's guest form pre-approved by the principal/dean of students. Visitor guest forms can be picked up in the office. MHS students are permitted to have up to one non-MHS student guest attend the dance. The guest must be at least a freshman in another district and may not be older than 19 years of age.

-School dress code and all school rules apply to dances.

-A student must have a 90% attendance rate in order to attend a dance. (Based on unexcused absences and tardies.)

Here is the agenda for the day on Saturday April 25th:

9:00 am - 12:00 pm - Post-Prom After Party bag drop off at MHS. If you plan on bringing a change of clothes for the Post-Prom After Party, then it must be dropped off at the high school during this time. All bags will be searched. If we find something inappropriate for school, parents will be notified and bag owners will not be allowed to go to Prom.

8:00 pm - Doors open for Prom at the Waterloo Fireman’s Pavilion. Please be well aware that we will greet all students and will conduct a check of all bags, purses, jackets, etc, including the use of a metal detector. We do this to provide a safe and drug/alcohol-free dance. We are telling you this now to make sure you know what to expect and in the hope that there will be no complications for anyone attending the dance. Vehicles will also be checked that are parked in the parking lot.

9:00 pm - Doors close and no more students will be admitted to the dance.

9:20 pm - Senior Parents may arrive to watch the Grand March. There is no charge for parents viewing the Grand March.

9:30 pm - The Grand March

9:45 pm - Parents need to exit the premises

*If a student leaves the dance early, they are not permitted to return and they will not be allowed to attend the Post Prom Party.

11:00 pm - The dance will end and the “Post-Prom After Party” will begin at MHS. Students are expected to travel STRAIGHT to the high school for Post Prom (i.e. they are NOT to go home quick to change). The doors to Post Prom will be locked at 11:20.

11:00pm-1:30am - Post Prom After Party is being held at the high school again this year, and we would like to thank all the parents and local businesses that have contributed to its success in the spirit of our students' safety. Students will be permitted to access their bags, change in the locker rooms and store their formalwear. The prom ticket includes the Post-Prom After Party, and we have a great lineup of activities, food and prizes for students. Students must be present in order to win a prize. We have over 150 items (restaurant gift cards, clothing, electronics, activities passes, etc.) for the party goers and everyone who attends the event will leave with something. In addition to the grand prizes for Seniors, we also have larger prizes for the rest of the partygoers. Students leaving the Post-Prom After Party early will not be allowed to re-enter.

1:30 am - Post-Prom After Party concludes. Travel home carefully!
