IN FLANDERS FIELDS IN FLANDERS FIELDS

BY JOHN MCRAE

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

BY GENEVIEVE HUTCHISON

On the 29th my ELA class had a special meeting with Mr. Kwame Alexander. On the 23rd I emailed Mr. Kwame Alexander to talk about what I really like about his books, Rebound and the Crossover. I told him how much I love all his books and how they’ve inspired me to be a better version of myself. But on the 29th Kwame wanted to surprise me to talk to me and my ELA class. I was so surprised and in shock while I was talking to him one on one. I thought it was crazy that he actually read my email and wanted to respond to me by… talking with us on a zoom call. If you’re wondering what I was emailing him about, it was for him to make a sequel to the Crossover. Mr. Kwame Alexander was really impressed by me emailing him about the book. Btw he said he is making a sequel to the Crossover. While on the zoom call which I think is pretty interesting is he wrote the book Crossover in a PANERA BREAD!

KINDNESS CORNER KINDNESS CORNER

Thank you to Carter Johnson and Daniel Gallagher for being engaging table-mates at lunch so that nobody feels left out. Thank you also to Benjy Djamchebi, Drew Ribeiro and Grayson Roukous for being inclusive and setting a good example at the lunch table. Also at lunch, a classmate shout out to Ava Cagnina who includes everyone at her lunch table every day and she is so nice. A few more student shout outs, including James Viola who always helps his friend in French and always makes sure they're paying attention; Cole Spera who helped a friend in math, class when they were stuck on a problem & to Siying Wu who saw that a classmate was hurting and gave him something she made in another class to help cheer him up!
