On Resilience
Dear Cache Community,
April has been designated by Governor Spencer Cox as Resilience Month, a time to recognize the strength and adaptability that help us navigate challenges and change. There could not be a more fitting theme for our district this year.
Each Friday, as I visit our schools, I have the privilege of recognizing a staff member with a challenge coin. These coins are awarded to those who exemplify our values and who go above and beyond in support of students and colleagues.
Legacy Educators: A Tribute to Oral and Tacy Ballam
When you retire, how will you be remembered?
Growing up in Trenton in the 80’s and early 90’s, I remember my great uncle and aunt, Oral and Tacy (Chambers) Ballam, from Smithfield. I visited with them every summer at our big Chambers family reunion. They also lived next door to my great grandma, and around the corner from my grandma. Oral and Tacy took interest in everyone. They were always happy making a difference in people’s lives. Not surprisingly, they were both educators!
Cause for Applause
Our school district has four core values: Student Focused, Community, Character, and Excellence. Check out some of the ways our students and staff represent each value!
Student Focused
Challenge Coins Awarded to Exceptional CCSD Faculty and Staff
Challenge Coins are a tradition borrowed from our armed forces. They are presented to those who demonstrate valor, teamwork, and commitment to excellence. We are so grateful for our incredible staff who help students love school!
Community
Sky View Student is Featured Artist at 'The Artists' Gallery'
According to his teacher, Jani Potter, "He has been really dedicating himself to his work and has raised the bar for the rest of the students here at Sky View!"
We are so proud of our students who engage with community partners and friends each day.
Character
Mountain Crest Unified Basketball Team Wins State Special Olympics Championship
Students from Mountain Crest's Unified Basketball team attended the statewide Special Olympics event at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. The Mustangs took first place in their division! The Ridgeline Riverhawks also claimed second in another division.
Unified Sports teams are found across our district, and provide opportunities for students of all abilities to engage in team sports together. Students build teamwork, confidence, and lifelong friendships!
Excellence
Green Canyon "We the People" Wins State Championship
Green Canyon sent 22 students to UVU to compete in this year's We the People: Citizen & the Constitution competition. Each high school team is divided into 6 units, and Green Canyon's team won 4 of the 6 units, then took the overall state championship. This is Green Canyon's 8th State Championship in 9 years!
Special shoutout to Mike Rigby, who has coached the "We the People" team at Sky View and Green Canyon for the last 20 years. He is retiring this year, and has coached his students to 19 state championships!
