Lower School - 4/2
Lower School Update - April 2
FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Lower School Families,
As we enter the final quarter of the school year, our Lower School students will be participating in our Spring NWEA MAP Growth assessments, along with NWEA Fluency assessments for our PreK-3rd grade students. This final testing session is an important opportunity to reflect on the growth students have made this year and to take one final step forward as they prepare for the next grade level.
Our testing schedule is as follows:
- PreK–Grade 3 Fluency Testing: April 14–16
- K–Grade 4 MAP Growth Testing: April 20–24
Throughout the year, students have set goals and grown in taking ownership of their learning. This spring assessment is a chance for them to reflect on those goals and give their best effort as they take one final step forward. We remind students that growth comes through effort and perseverance, and from a biblical perspective, that their work is an act of stewardship. Colossians 3:23 encourages us to work with all our heart, not for performance, but out of faithfulness with the gifts God has given us.
You can support your child in simple but meaningful ways:
- Ask about their goals and encourage them in this final push
- Emphasize effort over perfection
- Prioritize sleep and a healthy start to the day
- Offer calm encouragement and confidence
- Ensure they are on time and present
This is more than a test, it is an opportunity for students to demonstrate growth, responsibility, and a commitment to doing their best.
In His Service,
Dr. Rachel David
Lower School Principal
WEEKLY READ ALOUD RECOMMENDATION
Ping, a young boy who loves caring for plants, is given a seed by the emperor along with every other child in the kingdom. The emperor announces that whoever grows the best plant will become the next ruler. Ping carefully plants his seed and tends to it faithfully, but nothing grows. While other children arrive on the appointed day with beautiful flowers and impressive plants, Ping brings only his empty pot, choosing honesty over appearance. In the end, the emperor reveals that all the seeds had been cooked and could not grow. Ping is chosen as the next emperor because he was the only child who told the truth.
This story highlights integrity, truthfulness, and character over outward success. Ping’s decision reflects a heart aligned with God’s standard, choosing what is right even when it is difficult and when it may lead to embarrassment or loss. Scripture reminds us that God values honesty and sees beyond outward appearances.
- Proverbs 12:22 teaches that the Lord delights in those who are truthful.
- 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us that while people look at outward appearance, the Lord looks at the heart.
Ping models the kind of character we want students to develop, doing what is right because it is right, not because it leads to recognition or reward.

CHAPEL HIGHLIGHTS
Our first‑grade teachers, Mrs. Winn and Mrs. Zappia, along with their amazing students, led us in a meaningful chapel as we entered Easter week. They began with a big question: Can God’s love be measured?
The students showed us that you can’t measure God’s love with a measuring cup, a ruler, a tape measure, or even a watch. God’s love isn’t something we can calculate — it’s something we experience. From there, they shared the Easter story, including Jesus riding in while the people celebrated Him with palm branches.
Everything led us back to the promise of John 3:16 — “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” It was a beautiful reminder that God’s love for us can’t be measured. It was a joyful, heartfelt chapel that helped us begin Easter week with joy and gratitude.
WEEKLY PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
As I walk through this sacred week, open my heart to the depth of Your love. Help me pause, reflect, and remember the journey of Jesus— His compassion, His courage, His sacrifice, and His victory over darkness.
In moments of heaviness, remind me that resurrection is coming. In moments of doubt, remind me that hope is stronger than fear. In moments of stillness, let me feel Your presence renewing my spirit.
Guide me toward grace, toward forgiveness, and toward a deeper understanding of Your love.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
