Hembree Highlights

Greetings Hembree Families!

Sometimes the shortest weeks seem to be the busiest! We have certainly been busy at Hembree this week.

Hembree had the honor of hosting the first Zone 5 Principals Meeting on Wednesday, September 9. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the amazing things happening at our school. Eighteen principals and district leaders attended and visited six classrooms during their time on campus. I was incredibly proud to highlight the hard work, dedication, and learning demonstrated by our teachers and students.

We are also looking forward to celebrating 25 years of Hembree Springs Elementary School! Please see the information below for details and be sure to mark your calendars for October 2nd. I hope to see many of you there as we celebrate this special milestone together.

I would also like to address a few carpool concerns that have been brought to my attention. Please remember that there is only one carpool line, and everyone must be courteous to help traffic flow as efficiently as possible. If you are parking and walking your child to the building in the morning, please use a designated parking space. If no spaces are available in the front lot, please park in the lower lot and walk your child to the entrance. Double parking blocks traffic from entering and exiting and can create significant delays and frustration for others. Thank you in advance for being courteous and respectful of your fellow Hembree families.

Please continue to support our efforts by being mindful of your child's attendance and punctuality. Consistent attendance and arriving on time each day are important factors in student success. Thank you for partnering with us as we work toward our school goals.

On a personal note, I had a wonderful time attending a wedding last Saturday. I was also able to catch the first half of the Georgia game and was happy to see such a strong performance. This week's matchup against Western Kentucky looks promising, and I'll definitely be tuning in to watch.

How Can Families Support Good Attendance?

This week, students learned about the importance of morning routines and how they help support good attendance. Students will bring home a morning routine activity. We encourage families to review their child's current routine or create a new one together to help ensure a positive and on time start to each school day.

The 2026–2027 PTA Reflections art program theme is:

Hembree Springs PTA is hosting 3 morning brainstorming workshops with a team of parent volunteers!

📅 Sept. 14, 15 & 16 (Monday-Wednesday)
⏰ 7:10–7:40 a.m.
📍 HSES Cafeteria, on the stage

Students can come to one or all three! Brainstorm an idea, start creating, and make something original. We hope to see you there!

Can’t attend? No problem. Students can start creating at home RIGHT NOW — the workshops are completely optional.

Beginning the week of Sept. 14, completed entries can be placed in the clear “Reflections Entries” labeled bin on the bench across from the front desk.

⚠️ Please wait until your project is finished before turning anything in. Submit your finished piece + completed entry form signed by a parent/guardian together.

📸🎬 Digital entries, such as Photography, Dance Choreography or Film, may be emailed along with a photo of the signed entry form to HembreePTA@gmail.com.

🏆 HOW FAR CAN YOUR CREATIVITY GO?

Winning entries can advance through Reflections with the opportunity to reach the Georgia state level and even National PTA!

Last year, 6 Hembree Hawks earned 1st or 2nd place honors at district level, with one advancing to STATE!

From Title I

Families! YOU are your child’s first and most influential teacher. As such you have so much to offer your student! To encourage family engagement at home, we are offering family engagement Thursdays. Each week there will be (1) activity to do at home to be completed prior to Friday. We’ll list the activities for the month in Hembree Highlights and offer reminders via social media. Your student will have the opportunity to receive a *bonus* Hawk’s ticket for participating (look out for more details from your teacher) We’ll include tips and tricks to get the conversation started and reinforce learning from the school day. Please spend anywhere from 10-20 minutes with your child engaging with them around their day at school and encouraging their social and emotional skills. We’ll also encourage you to practice additional skills inclusive of Math and ELA. Please feel free to reach out to me Lucy Gilbert, Title I Parent Liaison (gilbertl2@fultonschools.org) with any questions. Please check the box on your child’s homework to receive an additional Hawk’s ticket for your student.

Para fomentar la participación familiar en el hogar, ofrecemos jueves de participación familiar. Cada semana habrá (1) actividad para hacer en casa que se completará antes del viernes. Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. Each week the PE department will choose 4 All Star Athletes (2 students & 2 staff members). If your student enjoys hiking, swimming, baseball, softball, football, biking, etc. Please email a picture to marzetti@fultonschools.org.
