Responses to Board Vision
- We met with Canadian in order to co-op for basketball and Middle School golf. Basketball has started for 5/6 already.
- We are pro field trips. 5th - 8th have already gone to a museum to connect to their unit on the constitution. PreK - 4 have a trip to the pumpkin patch planned in early November. Mid November, the whole school will go to see a live performance of Hansel and Gretel at the Oklahoma City University School of Theatre.
- We will start Project Lead the Way (PLTW) in January with 5-8th grades. Their science class will be Medical Detectives.
- The 2023 summer, the teachers will go to International Baccalaureate (IB) training. This is a global program that focuses on hands on learning for students. One of the expectations for IB schools is a second language, so next year, we plan to have Spanish as a class for our students.
- In order to focus on gaining in academics, we have created the intervention time in the afternoon. We are also using a program called Exact Path to identify learning gaps and show as students master those gaps.
- We have instituted a texting and calling program where we can send messages to parents / guardians through calls and texts. We have updated our website, and we are sending monthly newsletters to parents as well as using Class Dojo to communicate daily with parents / guardians regarding events at school.
- We sent a postcard to families in the area to start sharing our story. So many people think we are a private school. Many do not understand charter schools are public schools and held to the same standards as other "traditional" public schools. Our students test each year; we must fill out all the same reports all public schools do; and we must follow all the State Department of Education rules.
- We are in the process of getting a School Resource Officer (SRO) for our school from 7:30 - 3:30. This position will be filled by an off-duty Pittsburg County Sheriff Deputy.
