Meet The Administrators
Each newsletter, we will be showcasing one of our school administrators. This week, we would like to showcase Horalia Montes, who serves as one of our high school counselors.
With 22 years of experience as a dedicated school counselor, Horalia Montes has spent her career making a profound difference in the lives of students. She began her counseling journey at Dominguez High School in the city of Compton where she worked for four years before transitioning to Mayfair High School, where she has devoted the past 18 years to supporting students' academic, personal, and future aspirations. Horalia holds a Master's degree in Educational Counseling from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and an Administrative Credential from UC Irvine. Her academic achievements have equipped her with the expertise to guide students in achieving their goals and preparing for life beyond high school. Fluent in Spanish, she is proud to provide bilingual support to students and families, ensuring that language is never a barrier to success.
Horalia is passionate about her work, whether it's helping students set academic goals, guiding them through the college application process, or fostering essential life skills, she is committed to seeing every student succeed.
Outside of her professional life, Horalia cherishes her role as a mother and wife. Her ninth-grade son, who plays baseball, is her pride and joy. Watching him on the field brings her endless happiness, and she treasures the time she spends supporting his passion. Balancing her career and motherhood, Horalia exemplifies the values she instills in her students: dedication, perseverance, and love for what truly matters.
Each newsletter, we will be showcasing one of our school administrators. This week, we would like to showcase Babak Aminitehrani, who serves as one of our assistant principals.
Dr. Babak Aminitehrani is a distinguished educator and administrator with a rich background in teaching, leadership, and academic management. He holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from California State University, Long Beach, where his research focused on understanding leadership through the perspectives of high school students in leadership roles. Complementing this, he earned a Master's in Education from UCLA, specializing in social sciences and foundational mathematics, and a Bachelor's in Biological Anthropology, also from UCLA, with international study experiences in Italy and Egypt. Dr. Tehrani began his academic journey as the valedictorian of Bellflower High School, a Gates Millennium Scholar, and a Fulbright Scholar, reflecting his commitment to excellence from the outset.
Currently serving as Assistant Principal at Mayfair Middle/High School, Dr. Tehrani brings extensive experience in educational leadership, including prior roles as Assistant Principal at Bellflower Middle/High School and Principal of Lindstrom Elementary School. Before transitioning to administration, Dr. Tehrani was a dedicated teacher, instructing AP Human Geography and AP Government courses, among others, while also advising programs such as the California Scholarship Federation and Academic Program of Excellence. His leadership extends to managing special education programs, coordinating comprehensive assessment systems, and fostering collaborative school climates. His educational philosophy emphasizes fostering a growth mindset for students, staff, and families, driven by high standards, creativity, and inclusivity.
Student and Parent Support Resources and Links
Bellflower Unified School District (BUSD) is dedicated to the success of all students and believes that every school should be a safe and welcoming place for all students and their families, regardless of citizenship or immigration status.
The following are key documents and resources that ensure that we are supporting all of our Mayfair Middle & High School students on campus.
Plyler v. Doe?
In June 1982, the Supreme Court issued Plyler v. Doe, a landmark decision holding that states cannot constitutionally deny students a free public education on account of their immigration status.
AB 699?
In response, AB 699 provides critical protections for immigrant students including: prohibiting the collection of information regarding immigration status; requiring the adoption of model policies to prevent immigration enforcement on school grounds; and prohibiting discrimination based on immigration status.

Mean Girls: The Musical
Congratulations to all of the cast, crew, and staff who helped support our "Mean Girls: The Musical" production! We truly have very talented students here at Mayfair Middle/High School! We hope that families will join us again in the future as we continue to create amazing theatrical performances. And a very special shout out goes to Mr. Saunders and Ms. Campbell, whose vision serves as inspiration for their students.
Black History Month
During the month of February, we celebrate Black History Month, and annual observance originating in the United States, where it is also known as African-American History Month. We hope that people take the time to learn about and understand the massive influence that this group has had within the history of the United States. Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States, from politics, fashion, music, literature, sports, film, art, and more. There are many books in the library, documentaries, and films that are dedicated to showcasing the various achievements of Black and African-American individuals. And remember, Black History is American History. To learn more about Black History Month, feel free to click here to visit the webpage of the Library of Congress.

In 2025, we are entering the Year of the Snake, which represents wisdom, transformation, and intuition. Lunar New Year 2025 begins on January 29, ushering in a season of celebration and reflection. May this new year bring you good fortune, happiness, and success in all your endeavors!
ELPAC Testing

The app enables staff to create hall passes, reward students for doing well and helping others, and the digital ID card will help students have an easier time entering or leaving campus. Students will utilize their school email (via Google) to log in. The app is safe to use, uses very little data, and doesn't require access to any of the information stored on your phone.
