PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Families,

Sacrament of Confirmation

Over the weekend of Pentecost, 23 May, we had the joy of celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation with our Year 6 students and PREP students from the parish. It was a beautiful and prayerful occasion, very well attended by our parish and school community. It was truly special to witness our students taking this important step in their faith journey, surrounded by the support and encouragement of their families, parishioners and staff. We extend our sincere thanks to Fr Adam, Jo and Lorraine (Parish Sacramental Coordinators), Ms Tranquille and Mrs Pizzino for their dedication and hard work in preparing and supporting both this celebration and our sacramental program throughout the term.

To our newly Confirmed students, we are so proud of you. May the gifts of the Holy Spirit guide you, strengthen you and inspire you as you continue to grow in faith, love and service to others.

Court Upgrades and Holiday Works

During the upcoming school holidays, you may notice some exciting improvements taking place around our school grounds. The line markings on our basketball court, netball court and four-square courts will all be repainted, giving these areas a fresh new look and improving their functionality for student play and organised sport.

In addition, a new basketball/netball ring will be installed at the opposite end of the court. This means students will now be able to enjoy games from both ends, increasing opportunities for active play and reducing congestion during busy times.

We extend our sincere thanks to our P&F for generously funding this project, which will greatly benefit all students.

The school will also be repainting the carpark lines. This work will improve traffic flow, clearly define parking spaces, and enhance safety for both drivers and pedestrians during drop-off and pick-up times.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to a refreshed and improved environment next term.

Winter Wellbeing Reminder

As we move into the winter months, we encourage all families to take extra care in staying well. This is a great time to remind children about the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices. Simple habits such as regular handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when unwell all help to keep our school community healthy. Thank you for your continued support in reinforcing these important routines with your children.

Thank you, as always for your continued support of our school community,

Mrs Sarah Williams

Principal

We keep Fr Tadeusz in our thoughts and prayers following the recent passing of his father. As a school community, we extend our deepest sympathies to Fr Tadeusz and his family during this difficult time. We pray that they find comfort, strength and peace in the support of family, friends and our wider community.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

Running Club Reminder

It has been fantastic to see such a large number of children attending our morning Running Club. The energy, enthusiasm and commitment shown each week are truly commendable. Starting the day with physical activity is a wonderful way for students to build fitness, improve focus in the classroom and develop positive lifelong habits around health and wellbeing.

To ensure that Running Club continues to be a safe, enjoyable and successful experience for everyone, we would like to remind families of a few important expectations:

  • Follow staff directions: All children attending must listen carefully and follow the instructions of the staff on duty at all times. These guidelines are in place to keep everyone safe and ensure sessions run smoothly.
  • Behaviour expectations: Children who do not follow the rules or expectations may be asked not to attend future sessions. We appreciate your support in reinforcing the importance of respectful and safe behaviour.
  • Parent support: Parents attending are warmly encouraged to assist with supervision, help mark laps or direct children along the course. Your support plays an important role in making Running Club a safe and positive experience for all.

We greatly value the strong participation in Running Club and thank families for their ongoing support in helping us maintain a positive and safe environment for all students. We look forward to many more active and enjoyable mornings together!

LifeLink

Thank you for your generous support in providing sweet treats for the LifeLink fundraising cake stall two weeks ago. The contributions were delicious, and together we raised over $1000 for LifeLink. An outstanding effort. Well done, St Lawrence!

The official LifeLink Launch took place on Wednesday, 10th June. We continued our fundraising efforts by having a Free Dress Day in exchange for a gold coin donation.

Throughout this week, our Faith Leaders will also be selling raffle tickets at a cost of 50c each or three for $1.

We sincerely appreciate your ongoing support.

Winter Carnival

Please note the change of date for the Winter Carnival. The Winter Carnival will now take place on Tuesday, 30th June, for the Year 5 and 6 students. The carnival is deliberately designed to have netball, basketball and soccer games occurring concurrently to ensure maximum engagement of all students.

We wish them well and know that they will be good sports who will show respect towards their competitors and teammates.

Assembly

On Friday, 12th June, the Student Leaders will host a Leadership Assembly. Merit certificates and the Lawrie Bear will be presented. Parents are warmly invited to attend.

OUR NEW WALL MURAL OUR NEW WALL MURAL

Developed in collaboration with students and staff, this beautiful mural captures the Year 6 students’ shared understanding of what it means to RISE UP. Artist Linzi worked closely with the cohort, guiding them through a creative brainstorming process where their ideas, voices and values were brought together into one inspiring design. To make the mural truly their own, each student contributed by painting a leaf on the tree or decorating butterflies and flowers, leaving a personal and lasting mark on the artwork. The Year 6 students are incredibly proud of what they have created and are excited to take a leading role in introducing and sharing these learner attributes with the wider school community as the year unfolds.

WINTER CARNIVAL

Please note the Winter Carnival has been postponed until Tuesday, 30th June.

We will be playing against St Denis, St Gerard's, Our Lady of Lourdes and Majella in netball, soccer and basketball. The aim of these fun matches is to:

1) Promote fitness and enjoyment

2) Provide children with the opportunity to participate in sporting events within the wider Catholic School Community

3) Foster a positive attitude towards physical activity within a healthy, competitive environment

4) Develop netball, soccer and basketball skills.

TIME: Students will travel by bus to and from the venue. They will leave school at approximately 9.00am. The matches will start at 10.00am and conclude approximately at 2:30pm. Students will arrive back at school by 2.45pm to be picked up as normal. Please allow for possible delays due to the weather.

CLOTHING: Children are to wear their sport uniform - yellow St Lawrence sports shirt (no graduation shirts), red shorts/skorts, tracksuit and school hat. I also strongly recommend bringing a warm waterproof jacket for between games. Soccer and basketball teams will be provided with playing shirts. Students will be allowed to wear their own sports shoes for the matches, but are NOT permitted to wear any sports shoes with spikes or studs.

PROTECTIVE GEAR: If soccer players would like to wear mouth guards or shin pads, this is their choice. Shin pads will require long socks (red would be best)

WEATHER: As this is a winter competition, students will be required to play in the wet weather. (Basketball is played indoors) The event will not be cancelled unless the weather is too severe for the students to participate. Principals from the various schools will make the decision to cancel the event based on updated weather forecasts.

FOOD AND WATER: Students need to bring their morning tea and lunch with them, including a full water bottle. I recommend using the St Lawrence backpack as there will be room for their warm jacket as well.

It would be great to see any parents who are available to come along and support on the day.

Many thanks for your continued support and cooperation.

PARISH INTERNATIONAL DINNER

Sunday 21st June at 6pm

All parishioners are invited to join us for our very first International Dinner in the Alverna Hall. Let’s come together in fellowship to share a meal! This will be a casual gathering for our parish to meet socially and share food from all over the world. As we have families from many different countries and cultural backgrounds, we would like everyone to bring a plate of food from their country to share at this dinner. If you have any queries, please call one of our Social Committee members on: Nancy B 9349 1020, Marie B 9244 9212, John D 9349 7361, Anna D 9345 5271 and Maria M 9349 6374. See you there!

CHILDREN'S LITURGY

The Children’s Liturgy is offered at the 5pm Mass on the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of the month, during school term.

At the beginning of Mass, all primary school children are invited to join our Children’s Liturgy team, in the Parish hall, for activities tailored to help them better understand ‘The Liturgy of the Word’. The children return to church when the offertory gifts are taken up. Please encourage your kids to join in.
