September 18, 2020

Dear Wildwood Families,

We made it through our first full week of the 2020-21 school year! It was so nice having kindergarteners joining us this week too! With your support at home, your child(ren) are truly showing how flexible they are and ready to learn as we dove right into content and curriculum this week. We also had our first of many Parent Partnership Zooms and it was really impactful to get families' input as it relates to PBIS, remote learning expectations, and general feedback. We hope to see more of you at upcoming Parent Partnership Zooms. Future dates and Zoom links are below.

Beginning next week, we will start our Beginning of Year Assessments. These include independent reading leveling (IRLA), Panorama student perception surveys (3rd-5th graders), WaKIDS Math & ELA Assessments (Kinder), and i-Ready Math & ELA Assessments (1st-5th graders). More information is detailed below and will be communicated further next week, but all you need to know from a parent perspective is that there is nothing students need to do ahead of time to prepare for these assessments other than being ready to show what they know! They merely tell us their current levels and help us plan individualized instruction for your child(ren).

Thank you again for your partnership. We couldn't do it without all of you.

Proudly,

Sarah Jackson

Family Income Surveys Due by September 30th!

Wildwood is one of many schools in the district designated to participate in the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) this year. Parents and guardians are asked to complete a Family Income Survey by September 30th in order to ensure Wildwood qualifies for federal and state funding that is determined by parent income levels. Meals will be served to all students in CEP schools for free regardless of free and reduced status. Please drop off your completed Family Income Survey to Wildwood (temporary location) or complete the application at https://www.mealappnow.com/manfwy/splash.php.

IRLA Leveling & ARC Bookshelf

Over the next few weeks, all Kinder - 5th grade scholars will be meeting with their teacher or another teacher/staff member to read 1:1. This is to determine your child's independent reading level, so they pick "just right" books when reading at home. Once leveled, your child has access to ARC Bookshelf where they have hundreds of online books to read at their level. This video https://youtu.be/q4MZOUgRW3E helps explain how to find ARC Bookshelf from the Launchpad to Learning.

If you are not comfortable having your child participate in one on one zooms with a teacher or other staff member, you can choose to opt them out by completing the following form on or by Wednesday, September 23, 2020: https://bit.ly/32AtFY0. Please know that if you choose to opt your child out, this may impact the school’s ability to conduct some academic assessments and provide individualized supports for your scholar.

i-Ready

For the next two Wednesdays, 1st - 5th grade scholars will be completing their i-Ready Math and Reading testing during their asynchronous time. Similar to IRLA, i-Ready assesses your child's current math and reading levels. It is not for a grade; it just helps us plan individualized instruction for your child and creates their individualized "My Path" lessons like they had in the spring. While we encourage parents to support their child logging in and having a successful learning spot to take their i-Ready test, we ask that you not help them during this test. They will get problems wrong and that's ok - it's how the test works. Similar to an eye exam, helping your child would not give accurate results. More information can be watched at https://share.vidyard.com/watch/hfkxjeafzzGf1QaHbjKsnu (English) or https://i-readycentral.com/videos/introducing-i-ready-assessment-at-home-for-families-introduccion-de-la-prueba-i-ready-en-el-hogar-para-familias/ (espanol). Additionally, please note the following testing dates:

Wednesday, September 23rd: i-Ready Math

Wednesday, September 30th: i-Ready Reading

Attendance for these Wednesdays will be taken by your child's logging in and working on these tests. In addition to i-Ready, your child may also be asked to IRLA level 1:1 with their teacher or another staff member.

Panorama Surveys

This coming Monday and Tuesday, 3rd - 5th grade scholars will be asked to complete Panorama surveys during their synchronous learning time with their teacher. These surveys ask students for their input and feedback related to school climate, safety, learning, and relationships. These surveys will take about 45 minutes to complete and results will be shared at Student-Led Conferences in November.
