Together Again!
Woo-hoo! We're back! It's been an absolute joy to have B.F. Day's halls and classrooms filled with students again. Teachers and staff have been teaching routines, diving into curriculum, and facilitating friendships as they build their classroom communities with care. It's also been so fun to see our newest students, our incoming kindergarten and pre-schoolers, exploring the building and meeting their teachers in preparation for school to start next week.
I will be hosting a new to B.F. Day presentation for new to B.F. Day families in the library Tuesday at 8:05. It's primarily geared toward kindergarten, but all new families are welcome. This is the same presentation that was shared at Kindergarten Kick-Off. Please sign in at the office and join us. The presentation is about 30 minutes in length. I look forward to seeing you.
B.F. Day Upcoming Events and Activities:

Please Complete Each Child's First Day Packets
100% Goal for First Day Forms
First day packets should have gone home in your children's backpacks this week. We know this is a lot of information to go through and fill out. Having updated information for these forms is very helpful to our office staff. As a school, we have a goal for 100% completion of The Child Nutrition Eligibility and Education Benefit (CNEEB) form. This form is directly related to the City of Seattle and Seattle Public Schools partnership to provide free meals to all families. Even if your family is not in need of free meals right now, please complete this form. When you click the link it will take you to a screen that says Seattle Apps, this is the right place to start this form. You can find the CNEEB at this link: https://www.myschoolapps.com/Home/PickDistrict
Here is a link to the digital versions of the forms in the first day packet:

Clarification for the 504-2, Child Find Form
Q: Do we complete the 504-2 Child Find form for every student?
A: No. This form is for families who suspect their child may have a disability and requires specially designed instruction or accommodations through 504 or an IEP to access the general education curriculum. If your student already has a 504 or IEP, you do not need to complete this form. If you do not suspect your child has a disability that prevents them from accessing their general education curriculum, you do not need to complete this form.
Save the Date: Curriculum Night September 24th
Curriculum Night is September 24th from 5:30-7:00. Families will get to meet your children's teachers, and learn more about what happens in the classroom, what the learning focus will be over the course of the school year, and other important and good-to-know classroom and grade-level information. Look for more information in your students' classroom newsletters.
No School Monday, September 7th - Labor Day
Mark your calendars that there is no school and B.F. Day will be closed on Monday, September 8th, in observance of Labor Day. School normally starts after Labor Day, so if this strange, you're not wrong.
School Supplies - We Buy the Supplies and Ask You to Donate
Supplies Drive: School Pay
If you haven't had the opportunity to donate to our supply drive, there's still time! We request payments for your student's supplies for the 2026-2027school year on a sliding scale of $40-$60 per student. Please be sure to identify your student(s) when making the payment by entering their name(s) in the available fields. It is okay to pay for multiple students on the same purchase to avoid multiple service fees. Please note all students on the same “name” option.

Library News!
Hello and welcome to the school year!
My name is Jaimee Papineau, but I am mostly known as “Mrs. P.” around B.F. Day. I have the privilege of being your school librarian and reading specialist.
This will be my 15th year at B.F. Day. Ten of those were spent in first grade, so I’ve been around! Our regular library classes will begin the week of September 14. In the meantime, we are celebrating our Summer of Reading!
Students have until Wednesday, September 9 to turn in their challenges and BINGO sheets. Turn-in bins can be found on top of both library return bins near the office and on the third floor. Please remember to put your name on them!
24- and 48-hour Challenge finishers will receive a ticket to the pancake breakfast, which will take place before school on Friday, September 11, beginning at 7:15. I would LOVE to have some parent help to feed all our readers. Please email me directly at jlpapineau@seattleschools.org if you’re willing and able!
I’m so excited to celebrate reading with you this year!
Volunteering at B.F. Day
We know many of you are eager to begin the process to become a volunteer at our school. We are still waiting to hear specifics on the processes and procedure for this school year. Please look for more information in next week’s edition of the Dayette.
For parents who are already approved volunteers, two asks:
- if you’ve been at our school for over two years, it’s time for a renewal! Please log-in to your profile to review your application and background check.
-if you are available to volunteer in the lunchroom or playground in the next few weeks, your help would be greatly appreciated. We are waiting on final approval for our new supervisors, therefore – are stretched a little thin. Please email me or give me a call if you can support in this ask.
So happy to be back at school with you all. Stay tuned for more volunteer updates.
-Ms. Brenna
