Students Enjoy a "Glow Party" on the Last Day of School!

Ms. McGarry's class had a "Glow Party" on the last day of school. Students practiced fluency and fine motor skills by using different materials that "glow" to build the sight words they learned throughout the year. The students also played some "Glow Games" such as Jenga, Connect Four, and a Glow Ring Toss. The students had a blast!

iReady is Still Operational During the Summer Months!

This unpredictable school year has made student summer learning needs complex. In order to address individual learning needs, Neshaminy has extended our i-Ready access into the summer. Using i-Ready "My Path" students will be provided with personalized instruction throughout the summer. All students can continue to access I-Ready using Clever throughout the Summer.

As a District, we are encouraging students to complete reading and math lessons on their individual i-Ready "My Path" throughout the summer. Students are encouraged to spend thirty minutes a week in both Reading and Math with a goal of completing 10 lessons in each area.

Every student that participates in i-Ready lessons this summer will be entered into a grade level raffle when they return in September as well as receive an i-Ready pencil and sticker.

In addition, this year Neshaminy continues to make the Elementary Summer Reading lists accessible through the Sora app. With Sora, you can get free eBooks and audio books to enjoy at home over the summer. Students can access Sora and the Reading Lists using the Clever and the 2021 Canvas Summer Reading Course. All students received an invitation to the Summer Reading Canvas Course during the last week of school.

Hoover Title I Goals for 2020-2021:

Goal 1: The Principal will establish a system within the school that fully ensures consistent implementation of effective instructional practices that meet the needs of all students across all classrooms and aligns with the Pennsylvania Framework for Teaching.

Goal 2: By June of 2021 75% of all students in grades K-4 will meet the end of year benchmark for their grade level on the I-Ready Math Assessment.

Goal 3: By June of 2021 85% of the general education teachers who referred a student to the ESAP Team will indicate on a staff survey that the student interventions developed for their students were effective in helping their students to demonstrate growth in reading and/or in math.

Goal 4: By June of 2021 85% of all general education teachers, special education teachers, and Title I Instructional Assistants will demonstrate the ability to use data to inform their planning and to differentiate instruction for their students based on need.

Goal 5: By June of 2021 100% of all general education teachers, special education teachers, and Title I Instructional Assistants will receive professional learning in strategies for using data to inform their planning and to differentiate instruction for their students based on need.

Title I Goals - Data Review for 2020-2021:

The 2020-2021 school year was a year like no other. We began the year by implementing a virtual learning model. We then expanded to a hybrid schedule. We then started having students attend Hoover four days a week. We ended the year with most students attending Hoover five days a week. We implemented a new Math program, while simultaneously learning how to create learning opportunities for our students in Zoom and in the Canvas Learning Management System. We also had many students and staff members who missed several days of school due to being ill, or due to the fact that they were required to quarantine at home.

In spite of these challenges, Hoover was able to meet Goals 4 and 5. All staff received training from our Instructional Coaches in strategies to use data from our DIBELS assessment and our iReady assessments to inform their planning and to differentiate instruction based on need. Classroom walkthrough data indicates that over 85% of our staff members were able to implement what they learned from our Instructional Coaches to differentiate instruction for students based on need. Teachers used the iReady program, the My Path program, small group instruction, the WIN (What I Need) period, and Zoom breakout rooms to differentiate instruction for students. Some students received additional support from our Federal Instructional Aides. Others received additional support from our Reading Specialists or our Special Education Teachers.

We set an ambitious goal for our students in Math this year. We hoped that 75% of our students would meet the end of the year benchmark for their grade level on the iReady Math Diagnostic Assessment, which we implemented for the first time this year. The actual data is listed below:

  • Kindergarten - 85% of students met the End of the Year Benchmark - Goal Met
  • 1st Grade - 60% of students met the End of the Year Benchmark
  • 2nd Grade - 60% of students met the End of the Year Benchmark
  • 3rd Grade - 51% of students met the End of the Year Benchmark
  • 4th Grade - 67% of students met the End of the Year Benchmark

We hoped that 85% of our teachers would indicate in a Staff Survey that the academic interventions developed for students during our Elementary School Assistance Program (ESAP) meetings were effective in supporting students with improving their academic skills. Only 60% of our teachers indicated that they believed that the interventions developed by the ESAP Team were effective in supporting students with improving their academic skills.

Since Goals 2 and 3 were not met, Goal 1 was not met. Goal 1 states:

The Principal will establish a system within the school that fully ensures consistent implementation of effective instructional practices that meet the needs of all students across all classrooms and aligns with the Pennsylvania Framework for Teaching.

Since many students did not reach their End of Year Benchmark Goals for Math, it would be hard to argue that our school currently "ensures consistent implementation of effective instructional practices that meet the needs of all students."

After reviewing all available data, consulting with parents, teachers, staff, and Instructional Coaches, Hoover has developed new Title I Goals for 2021-2022. Hoover will also implement the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) program next year, which should help to ensure a "consistent implementation of effective instructional practices that meet the needs of all students."

Draft Title I Goals for 2021-2022:

Dr. G. and Mrs. Brooks met with staff members and with parents on Zoom at 8:20 am on June 1, 2021 and again at 6:30 pm on June 9, 2021. During these meetings, Dr. G. reviewed the current Title I Goals for Hoover. He also reviewed a lot of student data. Many parents and staff members provided input into the development of new Title I Goals for 2021-2022. Parents and staff agreed that the new goals should focus on Reading and Math. They also agreed that the goals should focus on student growth, instead of proficiency. The draft goals that were developed are aligned to our district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) initiative, in which teachers use data to inform their instruction. The goals are also aligned to our district's mission:

"The Neshaminy community builds futures by empowering each child to become a productive citizen and a lifelong learner."

Here are the draft Title I Goals for 2021-2022:

  • The percentage of students in second grade meeting Benchmark on the DIBELS Reading Assessment will increase by 5 percentage points from the BOY to the EOY test administration.
  • K-4 teachers will use iReady data to inform their planning in order to meet individual student needs resulting in 90% or more median progress toward Typical Growth on the EOY iReady reading assessment in each grade level.
  • K-4 teachers will use iReady data to inform their planning in order to meet individual student needs resulting in 90% or more median progress toward Typical Growth on the EOY iReady Math assessment in each grade level.

If you have any feedback regarding these draft goals, please email David Glennon at dglennon@neshaminy.org or Joan Brooks at jbrooks@neshaminy.org by 4:00 pm on July 2, 2021.
