Same but Different
As you and your child may be counting down the days of school, there might be a lot of questions and wonders about this coming school year. One easy way to shape those discussions is by trying to predict what might be the same to a previous class, school or playgroup and what things might be different. What might be the same? What might be different? Once school begins you can ask again and see what your child discovered!
Arrival and Dismissal Information - Corrected Information
Kindergarten - 2nd Grade
Dismissal at Davis School
Each student is receiving a tag that should be either pinned or tied to the students backpack. This tag provides us with important information such as the bus number they take, their car tag number for rolling pick up, room number and pod color. This will be particularly helpful as students may be unsure of where to go to get to their classroom in the beginning of the year. Students should have this tag on every day. Consistency in dismissal plans is so important in supporting your child in their knowledge and comfort during this time of day and our ability to safely manage a busy time of the day. Please do your best to have a consistent plan that allows your child confidence in the plan and the least amount of chance for confusion during dismissal time.
Each student will also receive two car tags that are required for dismissal each day. If you did not get this tag during the 1st and 2nd grade Open House or Kindergarten Orientation, please call the office so that you can write the info on a piece of paper for the 1st day of school. The teacher will have the tags for the child to take home on the 1st day of school if they do not get it previously. Please continue to read for specifics on the process.
Bus Dismissal at Davis School
Students will organize by bus number. The first wave of buses begin to leave between 3:20 and 3:25pm. When the bus arrives at Davis the students will walk out with an adult to the appropriate bus as a full group. Davis staff will supervise students while waiting for the bus to arrive and then support them as they get on the bus. The bus driver will supervise students until the child exits the bus.
A trusted adult must meet the bus at the bus stop. No student will be released from the bus if there isn’t a trusted adult there to meet them. Any student that is not picked up from the bus will be returned to Davis School. The Davis administration will call you to let you know your child is returning to Davis School and a trusted adult must pick them up from Davis School. Your child will be supervised by the Davis Administration if returned to Davis until a trusted adult picks your child up. Please understand that the Davis administration has many end of the day tasks to complete that can’t happen when students return because there wasn’t an adult at the bus stop. We understand that emergencies take place however repeated times that students are returned to Davis because there wasn’t a trusted adult at the bus stop could result in loss of the bus privilege.
Car Dismissal at Davis School
Car dismissal will begin at 3:25pm. Please do not arrive at Davis before 3:25pm. If you arrive earlier than 3:25pm you must wait in the church parking lot. When you pull into the driveway you should drive to the front of the building following the driveway directions highlighted in the map above. The car tag must be visible.
This year we are trying new cartags that will hang from your rear view mirror!
A staff member will radio the number out to staff waiting with students. Approximately 5 cars (depending on staffing) will be loaded at a time so a staff member can visually ensure students are entering vehicles and car movement is controlled. Please wait for the vehicle in front of you to pull out.
Walkers and bike riders
Families picking up walkers and bike riders should arrive at Davis school at 3:20pm. Whoever is picking up the child should proceed to the front of the school. Please do not have a child come to you until the staff member has documented they are leaving the group.
Siblings/Carpool
Siblings will stand together while waiting. The older sibling will join the younger sibling and wait with them. If you are carpooling with other families please have each student’s car tag in the vehicle or call the office so we can relay the information to your child’s teacher.
Bus Arrival at Davis School
-All buses will arrive at Davis School and students on the buses will be arriving in their classes between 8:55am - 9:05am
-All buses will drop off at the bus loop and students will walk in the main bus loop entrance and walk directly to their classrooms.
-Staff will be in the hallway and outside around the Bus Loop to assist students in entering the building and finding their classroom.
Car/Walker/Biker Arrival at Davis School
All students will arrive at Davis School between 8:55am - 9:05am. All Kindergarten - 2nd Grade students must arrive by 9:10am in order to be on time and use the drop off procedures. If a student arrives after 9:10am a trusted adult must park in a legal spot and walk the student into school, sign the student in as tardy and the office staff will announce the student to the teacher so they are expecting them to arrive in the classroom.
Lunch and Snack
School lunch is once again free for famillies in Massachusetts! During the first week of school we will share out how you can go online a nd sign your child up for a lunch. We will also share out how you can load money onto an account if your child is going to buy an individual milk (which does cost money if you are not also taking a lunch). You are also welcome to send in a lunch from home for your child if you prefer.
We do ask that you send a snack and water/drink in with your child each day.

Rolling Car Drop Off
Drop off starts at 9:15 am. Students will enter the building with teaching staff through the preschool entrance. Each student will be provided with a car tag with their first and last name which will be color coded to signify their specific classroom. We ask that you do not lose this car tag since it provides a simple and more efficient method for staff to effectively manage the dismissal process below.
Do not allow the student to exit the car unless she/he is in the drop-off area and assisted by a staff member.
Drive your vehicle up to the end of the sidewalk. Davis staff will guide you.
Remain in the car and wait for staff to assist in the student's removal.
Staff will open your vehicle door and assist the student out.
Staff will unload roughly five vehicles at a time.
Do not move around cars in the drop off line, once your child is safely out of the car, please wait for traffic to move to exit the area.
Never back up your car in the drop off area.
Do not park or leave your car in the drop-off area.
Dismissal and Rolling Pick-Up
Pick up starts at 12:15 pm (Morning Program) and 2:35 pm (Full Day Program). Students will exit the building with teaching staff through the same doors as morning drop off (preschool door- back of building). Please use the same car tag that you use for morning drop off. This will help staff to ensure each child is getting to the correct vehicle safely and efficiently.
Preschool students are released when teaching staff can identify the car tag and see a familiar face of the parent/guardian
The teaching staff will bring the student to the car with the corresponding car tag.
The parent/guardian should exit the vehicle to secure the student into the car seat.
As soon as the car seat has been secured, the parent/guardian should immediately return to the driver’s seat.
Cars should follow the flow of traffic, do not attempt to move around vehicles in the pick-up area.
The parent/guardian should then follow the flow of traffic and safely drive off to provide space for other parents picking up their child or children.
Do not park or leave your car in the pick-up area.
Never back up your car in the pick-up area.
It is imperative that all adults who are responsible for dropping off and picking up students are aware of this procedure. Safety is our primary focus. Thank you for your assistance in following our drop-off and pick-up procedures.
