Dear Clara Barton Families,

As the PROUD new Principal of Clara Barton Elementary School I am thrilled to welcome you to the start of the 2022-2023 school year! On behalf of the entire Barton staff we send this greeting with great excitement and anticipation for the first day of school. WE ARE eager to welcome ALL Barton students, both new and returning on September 6th!

Clara Barton Elementary School is a special place cultivated with a positive school culture and environment that radiates from the inside out. WE ARE an educational community that is dedicated to ensuring our children are provided with a safe environment and innovative learning experiences.

We have spent the summer preparing for the arrival of approximately 500 students! As I walk the halls in the final days of summer I am in admiration of the learning spaces our teachers have worked diligently to prepare. I envision the laughter and excitement that will soon fill our school halls on September 6th! It is going to be an amazing school year. We look forward to working together in a collaborative home and school partnership over the 2022-2023 school year.

Please see the important information provided below in this newsletter - including the arrival and dismissal procedures. During the school year I will send out weekly communication via newsletter.

Please feel free to reach out to me any time!

And so the adventure begins...Happy New School Year!

Dedicated in Education & Excellence,

Ms. Kizee

Arrival on the first day!

zoom_out_map

On the first day of school our teachers and staff will be ready to greet our Barton students on the blacktop! Upon arrival students will be guided to their class line. Our teachers will be holding signs with their name displayed. We will have staff members with class list assisting with helping students locate their classroom teacher and line. Each class will then enter the building. We will follow this arrival protocol 9/6-9/13. We will then switch to our regular arrival routine of students entering the building upon arrival as detailed in the procedures below.

Student arrival begins at 8:45 am. No student is permitted to arrive prior to this time, as supervision is not available.

Look out for our special first day guest!

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

Arrival Procedures

Student arrival begins at 8:45 am. No student is permitted to arrive prior to this time, as supervision is not available.

Parents dropping off students by car in the morning are to stay in a single file lane along with the buses. When dropping off students, please wait your turn and drop off at the A Wing entrance (see diagram).

Have your child ready to exit at the curb, making sure s/he exits from the passenger side. Remain in a single file while exiting school property and follow the directives of our staff traffic supervisors.

Any student arriving at school after 9:00 am is considered late. Students who arrive late to school will receive a late pass upon entering the building. Any student arriving after 9:15am must be escorted into the building by an adult and signed in at the Main Office.

Dismissal Procedures

Dismissal begins at 3:30 pm in four separate waves.

  • First Wave: Students participating in SACC will report to the APR and kindergarten walkers will be dismissed to the B Wing (see diagram). All kindergarten students are handed off directly to a parent.
  • Second Wave: Grade 1-5 walkers will exit via the B Wing. Parents planning to meet their child must park their vehicle and walk to the B Wing pick up location.
  • Third Wave: Kindergarten bus riders board buses.
  • Fourth Wave: Grade 1-5 bus riders board buses. Students riding a bus are responsible for reporting to their bus on time. Students who miss their assigned bus should report to the main office to contact a parent for pick up.

If you plan on picking up your child prior to dismissal, please communicate this to your child’s teacher and/or the main office in advance. We will try our best to have your child packed up and ready for your arrival in the main office.

Please have photo identification ready to present when picking up your child. Additionally, you will be required to share your child’s student identification number with a main office staff member.

Barton PTA

Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is very active at Clara Barton Elementary School. The PTA sponsors a number of enriching activities for the students and staff. They provide financial support as well as family sponsored social activities for our children. I would like to thank the Barton PTA for organizing Popsicles with the Principal! It was wonderful meeting families at our event last week. I encourage our parents and guardians to join our Barton PTA.
