Roadrunner Report
Community Newsletter by Ms. Benitez, Principal

Dear Roadrunner families,
These first few weeks have flown by quickly! Our Roadrunners have done a wonderful job of re-establishing routines! If you like to stay up to date with your child's school experience, be sure to read the teacher's weekly newsletter. You can also check our school marquee on Chase Hill for upcoming events. This newsletter is sent out at the beginning of each month.
CLUBS will be starting soon! Please read the permission slips carefully and ensure you are able to provide transportation for your children. Teachers volunteer their time after school to conduct these meaningful experiences for our Roadrunners! All clubs held after school end at 4:15pm. Your cooperation in meeting the requirements for participation is appreciated!

Community Eligibility Provision
Northside ISD is required to collect student data (TEC 39 for Texas state requirements and ESEA sections 1111 and 1116 for U.S. Department of Education requirements) to determine the disbursement of state federal funds (ESEA section 1113). This information will be used by Northside departments to help evaluate, fund, or determine programs that may benefit your child. Programs that benefit individual students who qualify may include: grants, scholarships, Summer School tuition, testing fee waivers, financial assistance with health services and/or other government support services.
OASIS MENTORING PROGRAM
Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring pairs adults aged 50 and older with first through third graders to help build their reading skills and confidence. They work one-on-one with the students for one hour a week throughout the school year. This tutoring program began in NISD 33 years ago and has served as many as 42 of our elementary schools. Please contact our Counselor, Ms. Juarez via email at Julianna.Juarez@nisd.net.
STUDENT SAFETY - ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
πStudents may arrive at 7:00 am if your child's would like to eat breakfast in the cafeteria. There only staff on duty at 7:00 am in the cafeteria. Other student waiting areas, staff is on duty at 7:10 am.
The right lane at the entrance is for driving through and dropping off students along the sidewalk. This is for student safety purposes as drivers may suddenly pull into the exit lane. The left lane is for exiting the campus or entering the parking lot.ππ Students should only be dropped off from the lane near the sidewalk. Parents do not to exit your vehicle when dropping off children. This keeps cars from moving up and causes the line to back up into the street. Parents must cross along the designated crosswalks. Students cannot cross the driveway alone. β
πΈPlease do not park in front of the "NO PARKING" sign. This prevents cars from exiting parking spaces, and causes congestion when famlies are attempting to drive off campus. These procedures ensure safety for all, your cooperation is appreciated.
SCHOOL MESSENGER
Please make sure you allow district and school communication through email and phone. This is another way (along with this newsletter) that you will receive important information from the district and our campus. You can do this when you're in the Home Access Center (update enrollment or when you create your login) by making sure you have NOT selected "not receive".
NISD Attendance Policy
The district is automatically sending Attendance Warning Notices for students with 3 or more UNEXCUSED absences within a 4 week period. Parents have 2 days (from the last absence) to submit an excuse note for their childs absence. We accept up to 6 parent written notes to excuse an absence. After these 6, a doctor's note is required to excuse the absence.
LEARNER PROFILE DEFINITIONS
Students have the opportunity to earn a Learner Profile Badge to wear for the day by exhibiting one of these characteristics. They can also be selected by their teacher and class as the Characteristic of the Month (pictures at school entrance). If a student earns a badge or is selected as the representative for the month, they get a brag tag to add to their collection on their brag tag necklace. Teachers use this vocabulary on a daily basis in the classroom. You can integrate this into your daily lives at home, too.
Our work towards our mission and vision is emulated through this year's theme: UNSTOPPABLE: The power of heart and mind. Our new spirit shirts (order forms available in the office or ask your child's teacher) will have this theme on the sleeve of the students and staff spirit shirts. These shirts are worn on Mondays to kick off our weeks with Roadrunner spirit! π They are also great for field trips. π
Our goal is to strengthen each child's self-efficacy and internalize a growth mindset with the understanding that these skills will allow each child to achieve their dreams.
