MIDDLE SCHOOL MATTERS

MIDDLE SCHOOLMATTERSOctober 30, 2026

Principal's Note Principal's Note

We look forward to Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 4th and 5th. It is hard to emphasize how important that time is when it comes to aligning with your student(s)’ teachers and partnering with the school. Together we are Eddie Strong in making sure your student(s)’ education is rewarding and full of high expectations as they prepare for the next level of their school career.

Thank you for a wonderful first nine weeks of the school year with your student(s)! Given the knowledge they have of each and every student, our teachers are hard at work identifying specific needs and pushing students toward high expectations of learning. As we begin a new marking period, please make it a routine to check your student(s)’ PowerSchool with them so you may stay apprised of their grades and daily schoolwork. Also, be prepared for continued communication from our staff if early warning signs shall appear.

One of the most difficult parts of the second nine weeks of school are the holiday breaks that interfere with the academic momentum that builds. Please do your best to schedule your personal plans for the holidays around scheduled school days. In addition, that last day and night of a break is important to resetting the routine so that our students are coming back to school rested and ready to engage.

Please continue to reach out to us if ever you have questions or concerns. There is never a busy enough time for us to take the time to collaborate with you!

Tribal Affiliation Questionnaire Tribal Affiliation Questionnaire

In Michigan, every school district has to collect certain student information, such as enrollment, demographics, and program participation, to share with the Michigan Department of Education. This helps monitor publicly funded educational programs and is required by federal and state laws.

The State School Aid Act added a requirement for districts to gather data on students' tribal affiliations. This data collection was set up with input from the Tribal Nations in Michigan. Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, all schools began providing an opportunity for tribal affiliation to be shared. It's important to note that providing tribal affiliation information to schools is optional.

The data collected will help improve communication with Tribal Nations and may also help districts determine if they are eligible to apply for extra funding to support Indigenous students. For those who choose to share their tribal affiliation, their information is protected by privacy laws like FERPA (Family Educational Rights to Privacy Act) and others that prevent discrimination.

If you wish to provide affiliation data for your child, please complete this Google form here. For more information about the data collection, please contact Mr. Ryan Towner at 269-663-3055 or rtowner@goeddies.com.

Health Office

Attention parents of all 7th graders and new students! Edwardsburg Public Schools is required to submit, to the Michigan Department of Community Health, proof that ALL 7th graders have been immunized against particular diseases for the 2026 - 2027 school year. Students need some vaccinations after they turn 11 years of age to meet the current standards. You must submit completed immunizations or waiver to msettle@goeddies.com or fax them to (269) 663-1016 as soon as possible. Your child is also welcome to drop completed immunizations off in our health office. Thank you for your help in this effort.

OK2SAY

In the event that you or your student(s) come across sensitive information that needs to be reported please utilize the OK2SAY program, contact building administration, or contact the local police department. DO NOT resort to social media as that only serves the purpose of instilling fear and panic.

Transportation

The EPS Transportation department has a great responsibility for ensuring the safety of children. Any change to a child’s normal dismissal routine adds a great deal of responsibility to the office staff, teachers, and drivers and results in unnecessary interruptions to classroom instruction. Please send a note or call the school office before 1:00 pm when a change is necessary. Thank you for understanding and your cooperation.

It is important to sign up for “HERE COMES THE BUS” here. Any changes to bus numbers, route changes, and drop-off times will be communicated through “Here Comes the Bus”.

Visitors

Edwardsburg Public Schools takes the health and safety of our staff and students very seriously. With our comprehensive plan to build and foster a safe and secure school community, we ask that any visitor please ring the bell on the wall and wait patiently for someone to assist you.

If you would like to volunteer at the Middle School, a Volunteer Background Form/Check will need to be completed ahead of time. Please click here to download, print, and return the form to the office with a copy of your driver's license. This must be done each school year.
