Principal's Message
Hiteon Community,
I hope you had a wonderful Spring Break last month! The Hiteon Carnival is this week, and with it comes the arrival of spring weather. The sunshine brings so much energy to both our staff and students, and we are looking forward to the sense of community that grows when we come together for events like the carnival.
Next week, we are excited to host our Volunteer Luncheon in the Hiteon gym. We hope all family members who have volunteered this year will join us. There will be finger foods, drinks, and entertainment as a way to say “thank you” for the time and care you have given to support our school.
Finally, during the last full week of April, we will hold parent-teacher conferences. This is an important opportunity to celebrate your child’s growth and discuss their progress toward goals. We strive for 100% participation. If you are unable to attend in person or via Zoom, please let your child’s teacher know so that a phone conference can be arranged.
We are looking forward to a strong and positive spring together!

2026-2027 Parent Input Form
Deadline: Friday, April 17, 2026
The placement of children in classrooms for the next school year is a decision of great importance. We invite you to participate in this process. Your child's present teacher(s) have current information and insight about the conditions under which your child learns best. Classroom Teachers, Specialists, and our Administrative Team meet to place students for the following year. As we work together to organize the new classes, we use many factors to create optimal class groups.
Class groups are balanced by gender as well as the strengths and needs of students. Additionally, teachers balance classes by Special Education needs, English as a Second Language needs, and academic needs. Teachers also look at the behavioral needs of students. With all of this considered, we also attempt to balance class groups by size whenever possible.
Please fill out the Parent Input Form if you would like to provide feedback on this process. The information will be shared with your child's current teacher. Parent input and information are only one factor and does not guarantee placement with a specific teacher. Please do not request a specific teacher. A great deal of time and effort goes into this process, and each child is individually considered and placed. Your input will be paired with input provided by your child's current teacher(s) when building balanced classes for the 2026-2027 school year.
In completing this form, please describe the kind of classroom environment in which your child functions best. This is crucial due to the unknowns that also enter the student placement process, such as
1) Reassignment of teachers within the building due to enrollment changes or teachers' wishes,
2) Teachers transferring to other Beaverton schools due to overstaffing or teacher requests, and
3) Staffing changes due to teacher moves or hiring!
Our goal for every child is to place them in a classroom where they can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.
We encourage you to complete the form if you have information that would help us in your child's placement. The form is due back by Friday, April 17, 2026.
Regards, Janet Maza (Principal) and Jenny Read-Emslie (Assistant Principal)

Why 7:44? Because at 7:45 am, the learning fun begins! Being in the classroom by 7:44 means your child is ready to roll when the bell rings. Every Minute Matters! Arrive on time = start the day with a smile. No rushing, no missing morning fun. Builds habits that help kids shine for a lifetime.
Tips to Beat the Clock: Pick out clothes and pack backpacks the night before. Set an earlier “leave the house” time than you think. Try to be on campus by 7:35 am for a calm start.
Please note that the doors will close at 7:45 a.m., and students arriving after this time will be counted as tardy. Let’s make mornings smooth and start every day strong!

Arrival & Dismissal Traffic Flow
We want to remind everyone of the importance to follow the BSD traffic flow map for Hiteon's arrival and dismissal procedure. For those parents that do car drop off and pick up the safety of our students, parents and community is of upmost importance. We want to assure that traffic flows as smooth as possible in our parking lot as well as on our neighboring streets.
Please remember that the ONLY EXIT from the Hiteon parking lot is the Brockman Driveway and to ALWAYS ONLY TURN RIGHT out of the parking lot. DO NOT EXIT LEFT. THERE IS A NO LEFT TURN SIGN. This will assure that the traffic does not backup into the parking lot.

Fun Run Sponsorship Opportunities
The Hiteon PTC invites you to partner with us as a Fun Run Sponsor! The Fun Run is our main fundraiser, supporting programs like the Science Fair, Art Literacy, and Oregon Battle of the Books, as well as community-building events including Bingo Night, Spring Carnival, and Trunk or Treat. Our combined funds raised also help provide new technology, school assemblies, field trips, and other student enrichment opportunities.
We can't do this without our amazingly supportive community! This year, we are offering 3 levels of sponsorship: Community Partner, School Champion and Hawk Hero. Check out the attached flyer to see the benefits from the different levels! If you sponsored in the past, THANK YOU! We hope you will consider sponsoring again this year!
Please, reach out to hiteonfunrun@hiteonptc.org for more information.
Thank you!!!!

Volunteer Check-In Requirements
It has come to our attention that there’s a need for clarification regarding school volunteers and whether they are required to sign in through the Raptor kiosk. In short, the answer is YES.
While volunteers may use the Raptor Safe app to sign up for events in advance, this action does not constitute official check-in upon arrival. Signing up through the app simply indicates intent to participate, it does not sign them into the event. This distinction is critical for two key reasons:
Mandatory Sex Offender Screening: The real-time background check is only triggered when a volunteer checks in at the on-site Raptor tablet kiosk. Without this step, the required screening doesn’t occur.
Emergency Accountability: If a volunteer is not signed in through the kiosk, the school has no record of their presence on campus. This poses a serious risk in the event of an emergency where accurate headcount and location tracking are essential.
Every volunteer must physically check in at the kiosk each time that they arrive on campus. This is the only way to ensure compliance with safety protocols and to maintain a secure environment for our students and staff.
If you haven't done your background check to volunteer at Hiteon, you can start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process — including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials — should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you for prioritizing our students’ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.
