CELEBRATING FUTURE LEADERS
GRE's fourth and fifth graders recently campaigned for leadership positions on our student council. These remarkable students took the stage to present their compelling speeches to their peers, highlighting why they are suited for these important roles.
Their speeches were a testament to their creativity, confidence, and dedication. Each student showcased their unique attributes and persuasive writing skills. They also demonstrated a genuine desire to contribute to our school community. We are incredibly proud of their public speaking abilities and their commitment to serving their fellow students.
The student body carefully considered each speech and cast their votes, making the process a true display of democratic values and student engagement. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Jung for her dedication and efforts in making the student council a vibrant and valuable part of our school experience.
SCIENCE IN S.T.E.M.M.
Gold Rush is proud to offer a diverse and enriching specials program designed to foster creativity and curiosity. Our comprehensive curriculum includes art, music, physical education, library and Spanish. Students also participate in a unique special titled S.T.E.M.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Movement).
Currently, our students are immersed in the science rotation of the S.T.E.M.M. special. This hands-on experience allows students to explore scientific concepts in engaging and interactive ways. Here's a glimpse into what our young scientists are discovering:
Fifth grade is studying kinetic energy and the transfer of energy (work) by building rubber band powered cars. The fourth grade is studying the connections between parts and their whole and the strength of structures by rebuilding the stick house from The Three Little Pigs. The third grade is studying how objects in contact exert forces on each other and how a bridge's shape can make it stronger by participating in a bridge building challenge. The second grade is studying the connections between parts and their whole and the effects of forces on objects by building wind powered sail cars. The first grade is studying how sound can make things vibrate and things that vibrate can make sound by building simple harmonicas. Finally, kindergarten is studying the connections between parts and their whole and the strength of structures by rebuilding Baby Bear’s chair from Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
We want to thank Mr. Thomas for making science come alive. His engaging activities are a testament to the hands-on, exploratory learning we value at Gold Rush.
DISTRICT VOTES BOND ON BALLOT MEASURE
On August 27, the Douglas County School District Board of Education unanimously voted 7-0 to place a $490 million Bond on the November 2024 ballot.
If passed by voters, this new funding would be used at our school to:
Enhance safety and security
Refresh student and staff technology
Upgrade HVAC controls
Upgrade fire alarm system
Recaulk control joints
Reseal exterior block walls
Repair flashing at entry
Install new intercom system
If passed by voters, a $490 million Bond would be used to upgrade aging schools and facilities; build additional career and technical education pathways; upgrade school safety and security; and construct and expand neighborhood schools. The Bond would provide two new elementary schools in growing areas of our county, as well as the expansion of one existing middle school.
A $490 million Bond would not increase current property taxes.
You can read more about DCSD’s funding challenges on our website. Thank you for being an engaged and informed member of our school community!
SAFETY REMINDERS
Thank you for making arrival and dismissal safe for our over 600 students each day. Here are a few reminders.
* Please ensure that there is 20 feet between your car and all crosswalks, especially the four way crosswalk leading into the parking lot.
* Please wait to pull in to park in the parking lot during arrival and dismissal. Refrain from going into the ongoing traffic lane even to park and walk up.
As always we appreciate your cooperation!
