The Weekly Buzz
From Palmer River Elementary School
March 27, 2026
Dear PRES Community,
This week, we had several honored guests at PRES. Pictured above is WBZ Metereologist Jacob Wycoff who visited third grade this week. They had an unforgettable time, going behind the scenes of TV weather, exploring how green screens and teleprompters work. They even learned expert tips about forecasting weather right here in our area.
Sending a huge thank you to Jacob Wycoff for inspiring our young learners and bringing weather to life! Be sure to tune in to WBZ Channel 4 tomorrow (Saturday) morning during the 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. broadcasts for a special shoutout on air!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kristine Kefor, Principal and Mrs. Cassey Monte, Assistant Principal

🩺 The Buzz from Nurse Elizabeth 🩺
Even though it’s the start of spring, those germ “bugs” didn’t get the memo—they’re still hanging around at Palmer River. We are seeing an increase in Flu B, Strep Throat, and Stomach Bug (GI illness) in school this week. These illnesses can spread quickly, especially in classrooms.
Common symptoms to watch for:
Flu B: fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue
Strep Throat: sore throat, fever, headache, stomach pain and vomiting at times.
Stomach Bug: vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps. Usually no fever.
How to help keep everyone healthy:
Keep your child home if they are sick
Children must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning
For vomiting/diarrhea, children should be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning and they should be back to eating and drinking regularly prior to returning.
Encourage frequent handwashing. HAND SANITIZER DOES NOT KILL THE STOMACH BUG.
Cover coughs and sneezes.
Get plenty of rest and stay hydrated

March's Monthly Mindset is Perserverance!
Perseverance means keeping trying and not giving up, even when something feels hard. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, and that is okay. When you show perseverance, you keep practicing, learn from your mistakes, and try again until you reach your goal.
Identifying Anxiety and Supporting Effective Regulation
By the Mass. Partnership for Youth
May 6 at 6PM
With an increasing number of children experiencing elevated anxiety levels, this workshop aims to support parents in identifying red flags, symptoms, and indicators that their child may be struggling to regulate and manage big feelings. We will explore the difference between developmental expectations and challenges vs. signs of elevated anxiety, along with the role the brain plays in the experience of emotion, and ways to help support and co-regulate with our children when they are struggling. Finally, we will review ways to proactively communicate with our kids in order to promote healthy understanding and expression of all emotions.
This series is being presented in collaboration with the Seekon Public Schools.
