UPDATE - ELC Parking Lot Exit Plan - No Right Turn!

For the safety of our school community, we need to decrease the amount of car traffic around our new 2nd Street school bus pick-up and drop-off area. We need all vehicles exiting the ELC parking lot to turn left or go straight across to Carver Street during arrival and dismissal times on school days. This new signage (see photo) will help remind you of this new traffic plan. Thank you for following this new traffic pattern and for your continued support.

What Families Need to Know:

Dear Parent(s)/Caregiver(s),

Last Tuesday's Groundbreaking Ceremony kicked off the Mount Horeb Elementary School Construction Project.

What does this mean for your CHILD starting TODAY - BUS LOCATION CHANGE:

Bus pick up and drop off will now be on 2nd Street. The bus loop is now closed. (See the map below for a visual of the details). We have an abundance of staff supervising the transition from the bus to each school building in the morning and back to the buses in the afternoon.
Bus students will be dismissed about 3 minutes earlier at the end of the day since their walk to the buses is longer. Students being picked up by a caregiver may need to wait for bus dismissal before being released. We will be teasing out these logistics as we get settled into this new routine.
Students will find buses in the exact same order as they were when in the PC bus loop.

What does this mean for your CHILD starting NEXT MONDAY, April 20 - RECESS LOCATION CHANGE:

PC Students will start having recess on the ELC playground. We have revised the master schedule to ensure all grade levels get the same number of recesses, but the timeframes may vary from the originally scheduled times. Here is a Construction Version of the Master Schedule, that we will use for the remainder of the year, that notes the recess time changes and the adjustment of having all ELC students eat lunch together.

What does this mean for CAREGIVERS - BUS & Parent Pick-Up/Drop-Off

PC families will no longer be able to access the buses to get their child off of the bus at the end of the day. If you don't see your child and you worry they might have hopped on their bus, please go to the PC office immediately. The office will communicate to bus supervisors who will communicate any changes/messages to your child.
Family vehicles picking up and dropping off students on 2nd Street is now prohibited. Please use the PC Drop-Off/Pick-Up lane or Academy Street only.
The PC playground will no longer be available for families to play on before or after school starting next Monday, April 20. Please plan accordingly.
The "red bench" area and waiting inside the playground fencing will also be closed starting next Monday, April 20. Please see the map below for two "pick-up/waiting areas" in green. These locations will be available for families to use when waiting for ELC and PC students.
The pick up and drop off process of kindergartners in the front of the ELC will NOT be impacted at this time. Pick-up and drop-off procedures remain the same. However, please note, kindergarten students will be walking up and down the front ELC sidewalk as this is the new bus route for them. PLEASE DRIVE VERY SLOWLY when exiting the ELC lot.

I am confident there will be more information to share with you in the next couple of weeks. We thank you, in advance, for pardoning our dust and adjusting to these revised plans. We are so excited for this project to begin and truly thrilled to share the end product with our community in Fall 2027!
