Survey Says! Enriching Our Students' Lives

Dear SJHS Families,

To continue this series of featuring information identified by our Title I Parent Survey, I want to address one of the top three areas families identified for improvement. Over one-third of our parents identified "Enrichment Opportunities" as a priority focus for SJHS to grow. Enrichment has been and will continue to be an important piece of our schoolwide program, but it can also be a confusing term. What exactly counts as “enrichment”? And what does it look like at SJHS?

This week, I want to highlight the many ways students can extend their learning, explore interests, and challenge themselves—enriching their experience at SJHS both inside and outside the classroom.

Academic Enrichment & Extension

While much of teacher's time focuses on helping students master essential skills, we also strive to provide enrichment for students who are ready to go deeper. This includes:

  • Friday School, where teachers not only reteach and support, but they also offer enrichment activities, guest speakers, field experiences, or hands‑on learning extensions.

  • Classroom‑based enrichment, where students who grasp concepts quickly engage in higher‑level tasks, problem‑solving, or project‑based learning.

  • Honors and college-level courses offered on-campus, including expanded advanced coursework options next year, such as additional Honors options and more college‑level courses available right on our campus.

These opportunities help students stretch their thinking and pursue more rigorous academic pathways.

Clubs, Activities, and Student Organizations

Some families may think of enrichment as the various activities that help students grow beyond academics—and those can also be part of an enriching school experience. SJHS offers a wide range of extracurricular and co‑curricular programs that help students build leadership skills, creativity, teamwork, and workplace readiness. Our Extracurricular Activities webpage highlights how these opportunities allow students to “connect with others, develop new skills, and dive deeper into the things they are passionate about.”

Our current student organizations include:

  • Academic Decathlon

  • Art Club

  • Club America

  • Drama Club

  • FCCLA

  • FFA

  • Legacy Leadership Club

  • National Honor Society

  • SkillsUSA

  • Student Council

Students also have the opportunity to start new clubs at SJHS based on their interests—another great form of enrichment and leadership development (see the Extracurricular Activities webpage for details).

Fine Arts & Performance Opportunities

From the stage to the studio, students can participate in:

  • Drama Club productions, including school plays and musicals
  • Various music related performances and programs, including band, choir, and orchestra

  • Art exhibits and creative showcases

These experiences help students build confidence, creativity, and collaboration.

Athletics & Team Experiences

Our athletics programs also provide powerful enrichment opportunities, helping students hone their resilience, discipline, and teamwork. Students can explore a variety of sports and learn how to join each team through our Athletics webpage.

What’s Next

As we plan for next year, we will continue expanding enrichment opportunities—both academically and through activities that help students discover their strengths and passions. Your feedback helps guide this work, and we appreciate the insight you shared through the Title I Parent Survey.

Thank you for partnering with us to make SJHS a place where every student can grow, explore, and thrive.

With gratitude,

Mrs. Mo

Finish Strong: The Final Countdown is On!

Can you believe it’s already May? We have officially entered the homestretch with only three weeks of school left!

While the sunshine and summer break are calling, now is the time to dig deep and give it your all. Everyday counts—right up until the final bell. Here is why staying present and focused this month is so important:

  • Finals & Academic Success: End-of-course exams and finals are happening at the end of this month. Being in class every day ensures you don't miss crucial review sessions or last-minute tips from your teachers.

  • Celebrating Achievements: May is a month of milestones! We have several achievement ceremonies scheduled to celebrate all the hard work you’ve put in this year. You’ve earned these moments, and we want you there to be recognized.

Quarter 4 Attendance Incentives

Don't forget that our Quarter 4 Attendance Challenge is still in full swing! We are rewarding your commitment to showing up right until the very end:

  • Weekly Drawings: Every week that you have perfect attendance, your name is entered into a drawing for a gift card!

  • The Grand Prize: Each week of perfect attendance also earns you an additional entry into our End-of-the-Year Grand Prize Drawing.

    • What’s up for grabs? We are giving away Kindles and Chromebooks to help you stay connected and keep reading all summer long!

Let’s make these last three weeks count. Show up, work hard, and let’s finish this school year on a high note!

Parents/Guardians/Community Members: If you would like to help or donate rewards to our students for good or improved attendance, please fill out the form below.
