Hold Up, Wait a Minute...

Patience is a virtue, but patience can be a challenge. It is hard to wait for resources, information, guidance. However, we had to exhibit great patience with sending out this SMORE as we waited for more information and guidance from TEA regarding what the Fall will look like for CTE. I have heard worry from teachers about whether they would keep their jobs, concerns from administrators regarding how they were going to facilitate their CTE programs, and overall concern regarding what school will look like for all faculty, staff, and students. While all the answers are not yet found, we have been given some guidance to move forward with. It also seems that with patience came a plan that offers LEAs some flexibility in their CTE program offerings. The attendance and funding FAQ document is linked in this newsletter. Please take some time to read through it and see what it means for your LEA. We as Region 10 are working to learn the information as well so that we can assist you as you make your plans. If you have questions please ask! There is a section in this newsletter that will allow you to pre-submit questions to TEA that will be answered at the Virtual CTAT Conference in July. Also, if you have more pressing questions, email them to us and we will do the leg work to get them answered for you. Happy planning everyone!

Program of Study/Endorsement Crosswalk - Approved

Endorsements

  • If more than one endorsement is listed for a Program of Study, you can choose which endorsement
  • Example: if a student does not meet the core requirements for a STEM endorsement, and Business and Industry is listed as an option, then the student could get the Business and Industry Endorsement
  • Existing endorsement rules in effect, but this will be an additional avenue; another bullet within the endorsement wording
  • See POS and Endorsement Crosswalk linked above

IBC Reimbursement Questions Answered

1. When will vendor code reporting begin for Industry Based Certifications?

  • Answer: The vendor code and cost reporting begins in summer submission 3; however, this information will not be available to submit in PEIMS until fall submission 1. Because of that, districts will have to go through a one-time process for summer submission 3 to submit the vendor code and cost. TEA plans to release this process in July.

2. Will LEAs report costs in their submissions this summer (if they want to be reimbursed) and then get reimbursed during the settle up in Spring 2021?

  • Answer: Yes – the window for reimbursement for the 2019-2020 school year is September 1, 2019-August 31, 2020 for an April 2021 settle-up. The 2020-2021 reimbursement will have an April 2022 settle-up, and so on and so forth.

IBMs Free Open P-Tech Platform

IBM recently developed a free Open P-Tech platform for schools to use for free with their students. The Open P-Tech platform has several curated learning tracks that lead to various badges that students can earn.

Many of the learning tracks are geared toward students who are interested in technology fields. For students who are not interested in technology, there is a professional skills and mindfulness learning track that I am using for some health science curriculum that I am writing.

If you know of any schools that would be interested in using this platform, IBM has offered to provide them with training. School districts can reach out to Cliff Archey carchey@us.ibm.com or Erick Espinoza erick.espinoza@ibm.com

IBM is also very invested in helping develop quality P-Tech programs as part of the corporate responsibility mission. If any schools need assistance with that, they can reach out to Sherry Wynn sherry.wynn@ibm.com
