Term 2 Week 6 Newsletter
MAY - THE MONTH OF MARY
Traditionally, the month of May is when we pray the Rosary.
Let us take time out of our busy-ness and give thanks for all the Blessings we have.
NEWS FROM MRS MCCLUE
Dear Families,
Night of the Notables
Our Year 5 and Year 6 THINQERs students recently dazzled us with their "Night of the Notables" event. Each student took on the persona of a notable character, immersing themselves in their stories and achievements. It was an engaging and educational evening where we had the unique opportunity to interact with historical and contemporary figures, gaining insights and learning directly from our young scholars impressive presentations. Well done to all involved, and particular thanks to Mrs Ciullo for her guidance and preparation of students and organisation of the evening event.
Interschool Cross-Country
Well done to all our OLGC athletes who competed in the Interschool Cross Country event on Monday. OLGC placed 5th overall, and teachers reported the excellent sportsmanship that our students displayed. Thank you to Mrs Hesse for all her efforts in organising the carnival, and for her time, dedication and preparation of our students in Sports classes and through running club.
After-school supervision
Parents are reminded that school finishes at 3.00pm and supervision of students is only provided at the rear carpark gate until 3.15pm.
Those parents who chose to remain for a social chat after-school and allow their children to play on school grounds, are asked to please ensure that they are actively supervising their children.
We ask parents to vacate the school grounds by 3.30pm at the latest. Whilst we are very keen to promote an active and vibrant school and parent community, for insurance purposes, non-school related social events should be held off-site. If you would like your children to continue playing after school, we suggest moving to a surrounding park such as the playground across the road at Prisk Reserve.
Many thanks,
Lisa McClue
Enrolments – Pre-Kindy and Kindy Program: 2025 and 2026
Please note that we have now reached full capacity for Kindy and Pre-Kindy 2025 and have commenced a waitlist for students. Places are also very limited for Kindy 2026.
If you have a younger sibling, friend or family member who will be seeking enrolment in our Pre-Kindy or Kindy program for 2025 or 2026 please contact the administration staff as soon as possible. These places are filling up very fast (with a waitlist already in place for Pre-Kindy 2025) and we would hate for any siblings to miss out on enrolling.
Friends or family members that would like to see what OLGC can offer their child, should submit an EOI via our new website www.olgc.wa.edu.au or by contacting the office on 6242 3400 for an application, or to book a school tour.
NEWS FROM MRS BARFOOT
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
With hearts full of joy and spirits uplifted, Our Lady of Good Counsel recently celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation, a sacred and transformative moment in the lives of our parish community. Surrounded by family, friends, and parishioners, candidates for Confirmation stepped forward to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit and embark on a deeper journey of faith. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Miss Peyton Murphy for her dedication and commitment in preparing the candidates for the sacrament of Confirmation.
OUR LADY HELP OF CHRISTIANS
On May 24th, we honour Our Lady Help of Christians, seeking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, for her guidance and protection. Let us turn to Mary, our ever-helpful advocate, as we navigate life's challenges and seek to grow in holiness.
PENTECOST SUNDAY
On May 19th, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, a momentous feast marking the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and the birth of the Church. As we recall the outpouring of the Spirit, let us renew our commitment to live as witnesses to the Gospel, empowered by the same Spirit that ignited the hearts of the early disciples.
NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK
The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must —continue. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) started as the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation in 1993 (the International Year of the World’s Indigenous Peoples) and was supported by Australia’s major faith communities. In 1996, the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation launched Australia’s first National Reconciliation Week.
In 2001, Reconciliation Australia was established to continue to provide national leadership on reconciliation. In the same year, approximately 300,000 people walked across Sydney Harbour Bridge as part of National Reconciliation Week-and subsequently across bridges in cities and towns-to show their support for reconciliation. Today, National Reconciliation Week is celebrated in workplaces, schools and early learning services, community organisations and groups, and by individuals Australia-wide.
FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI
Also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, the Feast of Corpus Christi (Thursday 30th May) celebrates the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. As we gather to partake in the sacred banquet, may we approach the altar with reverence and awe, recognising the profound mystery of Christ's presence among us. This presence is actualised through the sacred process known as transubstantiation, where, during the Consecration of the Mass, the priest says the words originally spoken by Christ Himself over the bread and wine, This is My Body, This is the chalice of My Blood, Do this in remembrance of Me.

Bowerbird Blues
Author and Illustrator Aura Parker
This new Picture book from Aura Parker stars a beautiful bowerbird on the search for blue! It’s a moving story of longing and connection, that unfolds as the bowerbird’s search sends him soaring across the sea, sky and city. He swoops and snatches vibrant treasures for his collection, and soon his bower – a mix of natural and unnatural objects – attracts something greater and more fulfilling than he could ever have imagined.
I am a collector. Always looking, finding… and keeping Bowerbird loves blue. Magnificent cobalt. Brilliant, vibrant blue! But something is missing. What could it be?

COMMUNITY NEWS
THE AGED CARE VOLUNTEER VISITORS SCHEME (ACVVS)
The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is a free service funded by the Australian Government, designed to support seniors living at home (and receiving a government funded Home Care Package) or those living in residential facilities. Ie, Moline House Karrinyup, Myvista Balcatta, Myvista Mirrabooka, Bethanie Gwelup etc
It has been running for over 30 years and helps isolated seniors increase their sense of purpose, belonging and maintain their social connections. A regular visit from a friendly caring volunteer can make a huge difference in their lives.
At Umbrella Multicultural Community Care, we focus on seniors from CaLD backgrounds who may not have any other relatives or friends to chat with in their language or dialect. As a mother of former students of OLGC, Eloise and Julian Loughnan, I understand there are many families from diverse backgrounds that attend the school - who may like to join this program and connect with a CaLD senior. We facilitate, manage and support this introduction and ongoing companionship.
Any questions please reach out to myself or my colleagues on 9275 4411.
