A Message from Ms. Carlson A Message from Ms. Carlson

zoom_out_map

We are well under way at MHS! My name is Amanda Carlson and I have had the pleasure of working with your 9th graders and new students to MHS. I am on the MHS campus Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and join the academy time for special events. All of the students have been friendly and happy to connect on how school is going, what their interests are and sharing how their day is going. I also had the chance to peek in some classrooms. Having a smaller class size really helps the students engage with the material and allows for more time with their teachers for help.

We will be reminding the students that Club Day is coming up on Wednesday, September 4th at lunch. There are always many clubs with a wide range of activities and interests from volunteering to games to film and much more. Clubs typically meet at lunchtime. We hope the students find a club that connects them to students with the same interests!

And students learned technology tips this week in Academy time. Starting next week, students can use Flexisched, a tool on their chromebook to be able to move to different teachers during Wednesday and Friday academy time to get extra support, questions answered or have time to work on homework. The flexibility of this time gives students the chance to take ownership of their learning.

This year’s Harvest Festival will be in Piedmont Park on Sunday, September 22nd from 11:00am - 3:00pm. The Harvest Festival is a long-standing tradition in Piedmont where families can gather to enjoy a cooking contest, art show, carnival, jazz festival, farmer’s market, scarecrows, and more! All proceeds from the scarecrow, silent auction, and carnival are directed by the Piedmont Education Foundation to the tri-schools (Havens, Beach, and Wildwood). Last year’s festivities raised $12K to help fund phonics, technology, and positive playground culture initiatives at all three elementary schools. Excited to see you there!
