Elementary Update Elementary Update

Another busy week at Smithton. Our future soccer boys practiced with the high school team and had a blast, preschool visited the pumpkin patch, PTO hosted the 5th annual Trunk or Treat, kindergarten through third grade had a special author visit, and talent was out in full force at Smithton's got talent. The week ahead is a smidge less busy with Red Ribbon Week and Halloween being the big events in the Elementary.

While we are action packed this time of year the learning and growth of our students is our primary goal. We work hard to balance the fun and focus and your support from home makes all the difference. Thank you for reiterating the importance of meeting school expectations even with the "fun" on the calendar. We appreciate the strong home and school relationships.

Remember The Halloween parade will begin at 1:30 on Thursday with classroom parties to follow. It would be greatly appreciated if parents attending could avoid parking in the car rider pick up line.

The Environmental Science class took a field trip to the landfill in Sedalia this week. One point the representatives of the landfill was sure to make was the importance of not throwing away batteries in your trash. Batteries are very dangerous in landfills and can unintentionally hurt people that work there. It is highly suspected that the fire that occurred there a couple of weeks ago was caused by a battery that was run over by a piece of equipment. Like we mentioned a few weeks ago, batteries can be recycled at Staples. Spread the word and remember that Smithton Cares!
