Classroom routines have been established & are now in full groove 🙂
Getting to know all of our students has been a blast *You guys have some wonderful children!
Looking forward to October
October is proving to be a busy month ahead. In addition to all of the classroom instruction, we have the following items on our radar, so please mark YOUR calendars and plan to participate in up-coming activities as you can:
October is National Down Syndrome Awareness month & we will be doing some special activities
October is Disability Employment Month - Watch for some special activities between our community partners and our amazing young adults training for work
Important Dates/Events to mark on your calendars:
Friday, Oct. 9th - Tuesday, Oct. 13th - there is NO School. We will look forward to seeing everyone again after the 5-day weekend on Wed., Oct. 14th.
Thursday, Oct. 8th is our 2nd PARENT TRNG Session! The topic this time is “Adult Transportation ~ Travel Trng for YOU!” This session will help you learn how to provide long term support for your adult child as they move OFF the yellow school bus and onto an adult means of transportation (Via, Via Trans, Uber, etc.) We have two sessions being offered: Virtual session at Noon (details to be sent out soon) and and IN Person session at 6:30pm in the Gym.
Thank you for your continued support with a Phone-free zone while at school. Our students have done an excellent job of keeping their phones in the backpacks, lockers, and classroom holders during school hours. Thanks and credit to all of you as well for helping us with the TEA Regulation. *High-fives all around! 🙂
Thank you all for your participation in purchasing our Reddix Pink Out shirts. Because of your support we were able to donate $310 to Thrivewell Cancer Foundation!
Please be sure to be in the know about the up-coming Bond / VATRE Election (Nov. 3rd)
Last day to register to vote is Oct. 5th
Early voting runs from Oct. 19th - Oct. 30th
Election day is Nov. 3rd.
YOUR Vote matters. Please be sure to get out and vote. Thank you.
Starting Oct. 5th, students will need to swipe their school ids when riding NISD school buses. We are going to do this a little differently than the rest of the district. Instead of using the students’ ID badges, we are going to be utilizing “ student id barcodes.” I will be sending home specific information for you (for at home use). *more to come on that. 🙂 Please be on the lookout for those directions if your child rides the school bus.
Please make sure to stay informed and connected through:

We are excited for the Northside Education Foundation (NEF) Annual Giving Campaign! This is our opportunity to come together and support the incredible work NEF does to empower every student and educator in our district. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps provide resources, innovative programs, and opportunities that make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students.
We encourage you to consider making a gift today. Your donation will help Reddix reach our campus giving goal and give us a chance to earn additional prize money for our campus!
The campaign starts on Monday September 14th and runs through noon on Monday, October 5th. When making your gift, be sure to select Reddix Center from the drop-down menu so your contribution counts toward our campus goal. Here are the ways to donate:

Sophiola
Sophia is a young lady with a passion for art, dancing, music, family, friends, and fun. She also happens to have Down syndrome.
As a baby her health was precarious; her fighting spirit showed through as she overcame those early struggles. Before Sophia was born she was diagnosed with very severe heart defects. Any one of them could have been fatal. She was born literally with half a heart. Luck and divine providence brought us to Dr. Mary Donofrio, our longtime and beloved cardiologist. Under her care and guidance, Sophia had two open-heart surgeries before she was two years old. Despite several subsequent surgeries, other hospitalizations, and medical challenges, she's an active and strong young teen.
Sophia has studied ballet for nearly eight years, dancing in several local productions. She enjoys horseback riding and swimming lessons. She has grown to become a self-advocate, involved and engaged in the community. In 2013, she was selected to walk the runway as a model for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s Gala in Washington, DC and, in 2016, the National Down Syndrome Society chose her picture as one of many people with Down syndrome to appear in its video to kick off the national Buddy Walk in New York City.
But it is art that truly captured Sophia's imagination and become her heart-felt and focused way to express herself. Through camps and classes at Libertytown Arts Workshop she has worked in painting, drawing and pottery. She especially loves Chinese watercolor painting. She brings an infectious sense of joy, humor and exuberance to her art and to her life.
This is her art.
This is her story.

Texas Transition and Employment Guide
Texas Driving with Disability
What is the Texas Driving with Disability Program?
This Texas trail-blazing program focuses on improving the interaction between law enforcement and drivers with disabilities with unique communication needs. Texans now have the option to disclose “Communication Impediment” directly on the front of their Driver License or State ID or when registering their vehicle through the DMV. This will alert the trained officer of an individual who may be slower to respond or one who is deaf or hard of hearing.
