Hello from Ms. Saldo!

PreK / K

Students in PreK and Kindergarten created a variety of projects focusing on 3 of our Elements of Art: Lines, Shapes, and Texture.

Crazy Hair: first students learned about all kinds of styles of Lines: straight, wavy, zigzag, dotted, dashed, etc. They then used the variety of lines to create people with crazy hairstyles and silly faces.

Ostriches: I brought in my fuzzy stuffed animal friend Ollie Olivander the 3rd, and students learned how to use lines to create a texture! Using melted together fun crayons, we created some fuzzy ostriches and visual texture.

The Zoo: in a multi-step project students learned to draw simple shapes (Circle, Triangle, Square, Rectangle, Oval) and then how to use those shapes to create animals for a zoo! Once drawn, the animals are colored in an cut out, and at the end the animals will be assembled into a zoo on a big piece of paper.

1 - 4

Students in grades 1-4 learned about and created a variety of Optical Illusions. Experimented with how simple lines can be used to create some very fun visual effects. Each class students learned to draw a different illusion using simple elements of art (Line, Shape, Color, Value) for a total of 7 different illusions!

5 - 8

Students in grades 5 through 8 learned about drawing with Perspective. Students used the concept of vanishing points and orthogonal/converging lines to create the illusion of depth in their drawings. All students began with a top-down view of a city and learned to draw buildings in 1-point perspective. All buildings, roads, windows, and additional details should follow the rules of perspective and are created using a ruler. Then students had options of other 1-point perspective drawings: a street-view of a city or an art gallery. If students felt up for an additional challenge another option was a 2-point perspective drawing of a room.
