GROWING TOGETHER
Welcome to a New Year with SST Region 2!
We’re excited to kick off another year of collaboration, learning, and support across our region, and I'm especially excited to welcome several new members to the SST2 team!
Beth Diedrick, Preschool Special Education Consultant, and Meredith Cotterill, Early Childhood Specialist, are joining Courtney Seman to expand our outreach and support to districts across SST Region 1. We’re thrilled to have their expertise on the team! We’re also excited to welcome Erica Kaufmann, who has transitioned from the ESCLC to SST2. Erica will join Sarah Marsden in providing high-quality literacy support to teachers and instructional leaders across the region.
Inside this month’s newsletter, you’ll find resources and updates spanning Early Childhood, Literacy, Math, Special Education, as well as a new ODEW initiative. From connecting families with community resources to preparing for changes in math instruction and strengthening literacy implementation, we’re looking forward to another year of purposeful partnership and impact.
Here’s to a great year ahead!

Senate Bill 19 Is Getting Real: What Does It Mean for You?
Ohio’s new Senate Bill 19 brings changes to how schools support students in mathematics beginning in 2026–27.
What Educators Need to Know
Use data: Identify students who need additional math support and the specific skills they need.
Strengthen intervention: Provide evidence-based intervention aligned to strong core instruction.
Plan for acceleration: Identify students ready for additional challenges and opportunities to advance.
Collaborate: Teachers, interventionists, and administrators will need to work together to respond to student needs.
Bottom line: SB 19 is an opportunity to be more intentional about how we identify, support, and accelerate students in mathematics.

NEW ODEW INITIATIVE
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is planning on launching Instructional Implementation Teams to strengthen literacy instruction through focused, school-level support.
SSTs and ESCs will partner with districts to identify strengths and opportunities for growth using a Department-developed Learning Walk tool. The goal is to use evidence from classroom practice to guide collaboration, coaching and continuous improvement, helping schools move from learning about effective literacy practices to consistently implementing them.
SST2 will share more information as soon as it is available!
