ACSA Region 8 Newsletter June 2024
A word from our 2023-24 President, Daric Jackson
Dear Region 8 Members,
As I pen down this final newsletter as your President for the 2023-2024 school year, I am filled with humility and gratitude. It has been an honor to serve as your leader throughout this journey. I trust that you found value in the array of events we hosted, including the three Equity Leadership Forums, Women Leadership Network, Legislative Action Day, Region 8, 5 & 6 combined Equity Symposium, Awards Dinner & Ceremony, and numerous Membership Networking Socials. Our calendar brimmed with enriching activities that invigorated our roles as educators.
This year, our collective focus on our theme, "You are Enough," guided our endeavors. I hope you embraced this mantra and will carry its spirit into the upcoming school year, 2024-2025. I must extend my deepest appreciation to our remarkable Executive Board, whose tireless efforts have consistently upheld our region's standing as number one, in my view.
As we embark on the summer break, I urge you to cherish this time with family, friends, or in solitude. Remember to establish boundaries for maintaining a healthy work-life balance, nurture your professional growth, surround yourself with positivity, and above all, remind yourself daily that "You are Enough," regardless of the challenges or detractors you encounter. Stay rooted, resilient, and, as we say in my hometown, stand firm with your head held high.
Wishing you a purposeful and rejuvenating summer,
Respectfully and sincerely,
Daric V. Jackson
And from our 2024-25 President, Roxane Fuentes
As we get ready to conclude another school year, I would like to first extend my gratitude to President Daric Jackson. His leadership, positivity, and genuine care for Region 8 was incredible. Thank you for all your efforts and investment in our leadership capacity and well being.
It is humbling and an immense honor to be your incoming ACSA Region 8 President. This opportunity to serve our Santa Clara County educational community is a privilege I do not take lightly. I am committed to listening to your voices, advocating for your needs, and working tirelessly to support you in your vital roles as educational leaders. Thank you for your trust and confidence in me.
As we embark on this next year together, I look forward to collaborating with all of you to advance our shared mission of supporting educational administrators and making a positive impact for students across our region. Together, we have an incredible opportunity to shape the future of education, to empower our students and educators, and to foster a culture of excellence and inclusivity.
I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation for your unwavering dedication to our students and families. May this summer be a time of well-deserved rest, rejuvenation, reflection, and some fun! Looking forward to an amazing 2024-25 school year!
Spring Leadership Forum
Region 8 held their final leadership forum of the year at the beautiful Villa Montalvo in Saratoga. Our speakers, Dr. Jonathan Brice and Eric Carlton from School Equity Solutions, had a fresh take on the meaning of equity. Their focus on the relationship aspect and how that leads to success and trust in the community were some takeaways from the evening.
We continue to do this work day in and day out because it matters!
Thank you to all of our attendees for participating in this event. We will see you all next year for our Fall and Spring Leadership forums!
A Salute to Educators - Denise Williams, Retiree Charter President
As we conclude the 2023-2024 school year, it is essential to recognize administrators who tirelessly support and guide our students to become college and career ready and achieve success.
Our chapter's final and most exciting General Meeting took place on May 14th where we awarded several scholarships to deserving educators. These amazing educators have demonstrated growth in leadership and are advancing their careers. Their efforts are crucial ingredients in the recipe for the best outcomes for our students.
Congratulations to the recipients. To all educators, I echo the words of Cornell West, "You can't lead the people, if you don't love the people. You can't save the people if you don't serve the people.” The scholarship recipients embody this quote through their exemplary and inspiring work.

You did it! Eric Andrew, Region 8, Executive Director
Yes! You successfully ensured the students of Santa Clara county achieved, engaged, and expressed their agency for good teaching and learning. The task is not done, but you have planted the flag of continuous improvement for our students and yourself. You were enough!!!
How many of you participated in the Luggage Tag Challenge? Here’s a brief reminder of the challenge.
“This Fall, I will ask each of you to actually or symbolically write your student support destination on a luggage tag revealing your plans to continue your success next year. The luggage tag contains all of the strategies, goals, and practices you will need on your trip to achieve student success. Once you have written your destination on the luggage tag I will ask you periodically to review your tag to determine the GPS of your final destination. At the end of the year I will have you reveal the “original” destination. I will ask if you arrived safely? What practices did you identify that helped reach your journey’s end? If you reached your journey? Did your luggage get to its final destination or get lost along the way? If lost, were you able to recover your lost luggage and still enjoy the trip?”
How did you do? Take some time in late June to reflect on your year. What successes did you accomplish this year and want to repeat next year? What are some things that you would like to do over or improve next year? What projects should you delete next year? Although you may believe you do not have the energy to reflect at this time, the research is very clear; Reflection is a primary strategy for both professional and personal growth.
Once you have had your time of reflection drop your shoulders, relax your jaw muscles, and begin the recovery and rejuvenation processes. Have a great summer and be on the lookout for more information and engaging professional growth opportunities from your ACSA leadership.

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in, forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
