August & September Overview August & September Overview

English

In English, we will start the year strong with a nine-week grammar bootcamp. We will review many important grammar concepts, including nouns and verbs, subject-verb agreement, and prepositional phrases. Additionally, we will study writing mechanics, including capitalization and punctuation. Students will learn the Four-Square Writing Method, which will help develop their writing skills for the writing process. After that, we will review simple, compound, and complex sentence structures. Parents, thank you so much to all of you who took a wish list item during Open House Night! We truly appreciate the supplies! We will use them daily!

Math

In math, we are reviewing fractions before launching into absolute values, and integer operations.

Geography

Geography helps us understand the world around us! In 7th grade, for the first few weeks, we'll focus on core concepts like location (where places are), place (what makes a location unique), human-environment interaction (how people and nature affect each other), movement (how people, goods, and ideas travel), and regions (areas that share common features). Starting in September, we'll start learning about Western Europe.

Science

Cheyenne's seventh grade science team is excited to start off another year of exploration. Our science curriculum involves a lot of hand-on activities to engage our students in an active learning process. We start off every year by reviewing our safety procedures. Soon, we will begin learning about the structure of matter and how the world around us is put together. We hope you and your students are as excited as we are to begin this journey.

Literacy

In literacy, we are finishing up our Skills Review Bootcamp where we have covered literary elements, characterization, inference, author's purpose, context clues, and figurative language. Students have taken pre-coursework benchmarks to help baseline knowledge and recall of previously taught concepts, and we will start the novel A Long Walk to Water after the Labor Day holiday.
