Aviation Career Exploration Day

DCMO BOCES is joining AIRPORT DAY at the Norwich Airport to Introduce your young students to careers in aviation. Aircraft pilot, aircraft mechanics, air traffic controllers, and drone operators are among the many careers we will discuss at this free community program.

The program will be held at the Lt. Warren Eaton Airport on Saturday June 14 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Among the many presenters and exhibitors will be the Mohawk Valley Community College discussing their Aviation Maintenance Program, SUNY Schenectady Community College who will highlight their Air Pilot, Air Traffic Controller and Drone program, and the Experimental Aircraft Association volunteers who will discuss resources to support students interested in the aviation career field.

The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles Program will be doing Free Flights to introduce the love of aviation. Students 10 years and older can benefit from this program. They will have to sign up on site and will require parental approval.

The CNY Drones team is preparing an engaging session to introduce students to the many career opportunities beyond maintenance and repairs. CNY Drones provides a statewide support mechanism for educators & students involved in drone building, coding, & flying paired with technology exploration opportunities.

The Aviation Science A.S. degree program provides students with a pilot or non-pilot administration and management option that will enable successful transfer into a baccalaureate program in the field of aviation.

The College developed this program to help fill a need locally and nationally for qualified air traffic controllers as identified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), with an expected shortage of qualified controllers.

90% of students who complete their Aviation Mechanics program enter careers with compensation rates over $40. This 12 month program launches students to careers with local and national airports as well as careers maintaining amusement park equipment!

The EAA volunteers introduce students to careers in aviation. Their Young Eagle Program offers free first flight experience and a free student membership that provides students access to multiple resources and information. We will also discuss other careers connected to aviation such as flight attendants, airport management, etc.
