THANK YOU THANK YOU

As always, we want to thank our voters for approving the $49 million construction bond to provide improvements to Banks School District facilities. With the Oregon School Capital Improvement Matching (OSCIM) grant, we have more than $55 million to complete the following projects:

  • Banks High School Addition

  • Campus-wide traffic flow improvements

  • Locker room modernization

  • Auxiliary gym addition

  • Safety and security

  • Elementary HVAC and roof repair

We’re working with partners Cornerstone Management Group, BRIC Architecture, and P&C Construction to steward these funds well and complete projects on time.

THE LATEST THE LATEST

Construction continues at our high school campus. Structures have now been removed from the site, including the high school south wing, the barn, and the former admin center. Now, concrete demolition can begin in preparation for the new aux gym and high school addition. On Feb. 24, the district received land use approval from the City of Banks Planning Commission. This is a major milestone for the project, allowing permitting to continue to the next steps with Washington County, Clean Water Services, and Oregon DEQ.

As these exciting projects unfold, we are leveraging value engineering to keep the budget on track. This has meant reducing some hardscaping such as concrete benches and walkways, simplifying landscaping, and adjusting some building materials. With the value engineering and careful stewardship, the district is maintaining contingencies above industry standards. These contingencies allow the district to prepare for any uncertainties and potentially increase the scope of the projects.

Throughout the demolition process, the district and its partners have taken great care to preserve school, building, and community history. Teams have salvaged many items to be repurposed in the new facilities, including the mural, wood for wainscoting in hallways, and bricks for landscaping. The district has also distributed items to the community by request to allow individuals to preserve the history of the building at home. Along with preserving items, we are planning to showcase artifacts of historical significance via digital formats, such as a web page, a coffee table book, and a documentary produced by BHS students. We are excited to be able to share those with you in the coming year.

In-Kind Work

P&C Construction serves as the main point of contact for contractors or vendors in the community who are interested in contributing in-kind work to these bond projects. If you have leads or referrals for this type of work, please contact Brian Sica at the Superintendent’s Office at brians@banks.k12.or.us or 503-324-8591.

COMING UP COMING UP

  • With structures removed, concrete demolition is beginning to make way for work to begin on the Banks High School addition, which will include a new bus turnaround, two emergency exits, a cafeteria refresh, and a full locker room renovation.

  • Five Star Builders has ordered the aux gym pre-engineered steel building, with construction expected to begin this month. This new community gym – with a full-sized basketball court, two side courts, new restrooms, additional storage, new bleachers, a scoreboard, maintenance facility, and team rooms with storage – is expected to be ready by winter 2026!

  • HVAC improvements at the elementary school will begin this summer. Roof replacement and repairs will take place this summer if time allows; otherwise, the work will occur next summer.

  • For the Banks Creek culvert repairs, we have completed surveying and held site meetings with consultants and agencies. Our teams are working on a proposal for design and permitting with culvert repairs planned for summer 2026.
