From the Principal's Desk

Hello Little Viking Families,

It is hard to believe we are already in our final month of school. The year has flown by. Even though we are nearing the finish line, we have a lot of learning and fun ahead in these final weeks of school.

Reminders/Updates:

Friday is our registration deadline for a free Salt Creek Tshirt! - REGISTRATION FOR THE 2026-27 school year is OPEN! Please log into your skyward and complete next year's registration as soon as possible. All district students who register prior to the May 8th deadline will receive a free school T-shirt!

Our students did an amazing job with our Books for Bikes reading program! We read over

2,500 books in the month of April! Thank you to the Elmhurst and Western Springs Masonic Lodges for sponsoring the "Books for Bikes" program at our school through the Illinois Masonic Children's Assistance Program. Check out a picture of our winning students with their bikes below!

Most students completed their end of year iReady assessments this week. Make-ups will be next week and those reports will be sent home the last day of school when report cards go live in Skyward. Even the preliminary results we are seeing are astounding! SO MUCH GROWTH THIS YEAR! Thank you to our families for your support of our students at home. Their growth is your accomplishment too!

And finally, thank you to all of our families for showering our staff with appreciation this week for teacher appreciation week. We are so lucky to have such an amazing FTC and school community in Salt Creek 48!

Have a great weekend,

-Mrs. Scanlan

Technology Changes Technology Changes

Dear Parents,

As we approach the end of the school year, we want to share important information regarding student Chromebooks and access to school resources over the summer.

Chromebook Collection
All school-issued Chromebooks and their chargers will be collected before the last day of school. This year, we will be replacing our entire fleet of Chromebooks. This is great news because we are ensuring students have updated, reliable devices for the upcoming school year. Per the District 48 Parent & Student Handbook (25-26), estimated costs for lost, intentionally damaged, or stolen items (subject to change) are as follows:

  • Device Replacement - $500.00

  • Stylus - $35 - 60

  • Charging Cord - $30 - $55

Access to School Accounts Over the Summer
Students will continue to have access to their school accounts during the summer months. If your child wants access to the district-provided educational resources, such as i-Ready, they may do so by logging in on a personal device using their school email address and password.

How to Set Up a Profile for Student Access

  • Open the Google Chrome (or Edge) browser on your personal device

  • In the top right corner, click the profile icon (circle with a picture or initials)

  • Click “Add Chrome Profile” or “Add new Profile.”

  • Click ‘Sign In” in the window that pops up

  • Students will enter their school email address (ending with @saltcreek48.org) and click “Next”

  • Students will enter their password and click “Next.”

  • When prompted to turn on sync, click “Yes, I’m In” (this will allow all their bookmarks, settings, and saved passwords to be transferred)

Using a separate Chrome profile helps keep your child’s school account separate from personal or family accounts. This prevents issues like being logged into the wrong Google account, ensures school apps and extensions work properly, and keeps bookmarks, history, and saved work organized for school use only.

Please note that while summer access will remain available, there will be no access in early August when we roll over our class lists from one year to the next.

If you have any questions or need assistance with login information, please contact your school’s main office.

Thank you for your continued support, and we wish you and your family a safe and enjoyable summer!

Students who come in late find it harder to establish a good morning routine at school. Teachers are beginning instruction and a late student is missing out. Thank you for your assistance in making sure your students arrive to school on time!

Overdue Breakfast/ Lunch Balances

Don't forget to check and pay any overdue lunch balances. You can check balances and pay on your parent Skyward account. You can also send cash or check payment to school with your child in a marked envelope with name and what payment is for. The office will then account for the cash or check payment on your student's Skyward.

Bus Information Bus Information

Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students must have a parent or other adult meet them at the bus stop everyday after school.

Standard Response Protocol

Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.

Payments & Fees Payments & Fees

In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.

Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
