As part of schoolwide literacy push, Ms. Houseknecht and Ms. Duvall have created the Hereford READS Book Club. This school wide initiative is designed to engage students in reading books for fun. Joining a book club is voluntary for students. Each book club is led by an HHS teacher, and students will have an opportunity to join a book club based on which book interests them. Bullpen Boost: Mental Health & Wellness Resources
The holiday season can come with lots of fun, but it can also come with lots of stress. If this sounds like you, then know you’re in good company! Our holiday schedules are often crammed with social events that put extreme demands on our time. We may feel pressured to splurge on gifts and travel even if our budgets are tight or take part in activities that claim too much of our personal and family energy. These challenges can be hard to handle, even if you and your kids are in good health.
Here are a few suggestions for navigating holiday stress that can help your family feel more balanced (and possibly a little more joyful, too):
- Keep your calendar manageable (and your explanations short)
- Prioritize family health
- Set clear (but flexible because it’s break) expectations for your kids
- Emphasize the positive, simple ways to give
BCPS is partnering with Backpack Health to offer free virtual caregiver wellness and mental health literacy workshops on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 6 - 7 p.m. These sessions are open to all BCPS families and provide valuable tools and strategies to support the wellbeing of both caregivers and children. This initiative is made possible through the support of the Maryland Community Health Resources Commission and the Maryland Consortium on Coordinated Community Supports.
Upcoming topics:
December 18th: Suicide Prevention
January 8th: Establishing Boundaries
January 22nd: Cultural and Parenting Styles
