Thank you to everyone who donated to the Birthday Book Club. All the money has been deposited, the order has been created and books should be arriving in the next few weeks. When the books are all in and processed, I will start with August and September birthdays. After September, we will continue with birthdays each month, I will start to sprinkle in May, June and July birthdays as well. When a student checks out their birthday book they have 1 month to read and share the book with family then it comes back to the library for others to enjoy. Again, thank you to everyone for supporting our readers! ~ Ms. McDonald
Technology
Protect Your Student’s Device and Avoid Costly Repairs
Families are encouraged to purchase Device Protection for just $25 per year—and there is no cost for students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
With Device Protection, accidental damage claims are $40 per incident ($20 for free/reduced lunch students), and lost or stolen devices have a $100 claim fee.
Without Device Protection, families are responsible for the full cost of repairs or replacement. For example, replacing a damaged iPad screen can cost approximately $150.
Device Protection is an affordable way to be protected from unexpected repair expenses. Click the link to sign up for One 2 One Risk device protection. More information can be found on the Technology FAQ site.

What's Happening in the WH Art Studio?
What’s Happening in the Art Studio?
This week and next, students will begin setting personal art goals and documenting their creative process in Seesaw.
Throughout the year, students use our Studio Habits of Mind to think about how they create, grow, problem solve, and reflect as artists. Kindergarten students are beginning to learn the language of the Studio Habits and how we use them as artists. Students in grades 2–5 set goals, reflect on these habits during art class, and photograph their art making process in Seesaw. First grade students will begin learning how to document their artwork very soon.
Families, you’re invited to be part of the process! As you begin seeing artwork appear in your child’s Art Seesaw, feel free to like their posts or leave a positive, encouraging comment.
Remember, what you see may be planning, experimenting, a work in progress, or a finished piece. The goal is to celebrate the process, not just the finished product.
Also, keep an eye out for flyers about our upcoming Square One Art Fundraiser in November! Students are already busy creating their artwork for this year’s fundraiser, and we’re excited to share that orders will include free shipping directly to your home this year.
Our artists are excited to share what they’re creating and learning with you!
~ Best Regards, Erin Whipple- WH Art Instructor

School Policies & Reminders
- Early Release Wednesdays: Each Wednesday school will be released one hour early at 3:10 p.m. Busses will only run at the 3:10 p.m. dismissal. If your child(ren) is already signed up for afternoon Kid's Zone, they are welcome to stay and go to Kid's Zone. Otherwise, all students will be dismissed at 3:10 p.m. If this creates a hardship for your family, please contact our building Principal, Ms. Hartman.
- Morning Arrival: Students may enter our building at 8:55 a.m. and the final morning bell rings at 9:10 a.m. After that time, parents MUST accompany their student(s) into the office and sign them in for the day.
- Afternoon Dismissal: Our school day ends at 4:10 p.m. and our office closes at 4:30 p.m. Please note: All students must be picked up on time. If the need arises to pick up your student at the end of our school day, we ask that you come in to the office to sign your student out & are leaving the building by 3:45 pm (2:45 pm on Early Release Wednesdays).
- Transportation Changes: If a student has a transportation change, parents must notify the office 1 hour prior to dismissal. You may call the office at: 816-736-5630 or email Julie (Julie.white@lps53.org), Carrie (carrie.whitworth@lps53.org) and the homeroom teacher. If you have transportation changes for multiple days in a week, you may email those all at once… one week at a time. Students will only be released to those individuals listed as a primary or emergency contact in PowerSchool, unless permission is given otherwise.
- Lunch With My Student: Please note: due to our large population & limited lunchroom seating, lunchtime visits are limited to no more than 1-2 visitors per student, per week. Fast food is unfortunately not allowed due to district policy. You may bring a lunch from home or purchase a cafeteria lunch.
- Attendance and Absences: Parents please notify the office by 9:30 a.m. if/when your student will be absent (or late) with the date and reason. You may call the office at 816-736-5630 or email Julie (julie.white@lps53.org) and Carrie (carrie.whitworth@lps53.org). Voicemails are also a great way to contact us before the school day begins. We check our messages at the start of each day.
- No Birthday Treats: In accordance with our district wellness policy and in support of our increased number of students with life-threatening allergies, all elementary schools will celebrate student birthdays in ways that do not involve bringing or distributing food-related treats. Every student’s birthday is important, and will be recognized during the morning announcements, and given a birthday ribbon, sticker & pencil.
- Lost And Found: Our lost & found is located in our cafeteria. At the end of each month any unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity. Please help us reduce the amount of items we donate by labeling your student(s) jackets, sweatshirts, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc.
- For additional information on our school policies please see document below.
