How much do meals cost?

There is a small change to our meal costs - $4.50 for lunch and $2.80 for breakfast. We are using a new company, FoodWorks, to provide the meals but have been meeting with them and anticipate similar service/meals as in prior years. Your feedback will be helpful as the year starts.

How do I order meals for my child?

Students must pre-order all meals. Around the 20th of each month, families will receive a menu and order link. The link will include breakfast , lunch and milk options. There is a deadline to place orders as food is pre-ordered and thus, we cannot add late orders.

What if my child has a food allergy?

FSMA's food vendor can accommodate allergies if medical documentation is provided. All allergy related questions can be sent to our school nurses - Becky and Laurie. Please note that FSMA is a nut-free school... this applies to all food items brought into school.

How Do Meals Work?

K – 6th Grade: Students eat meals in the classroom. Teachers focus on “grace and courtesy” skills at this time. Children can bring lunch from home or order lunch at school. Teachers are present during meals to support children as needed. Classrooms do allow “heat-ups” for lunch but the specific rules around this are created by the classroom teacher (please ask your child’s teacher about and procedural information if your child is bringing something that needs to be heated up at school.

7th and 8th Grade: Students eat breakfast during morning homebase and eat lunch in the cafeteria. Students may bring their own or purchase breakfast/lunch at school. Middle School lunch is a time where the inclusiveness, acceptance and a sense of community that is abundant in the classroom will be present in the cafeteria – no one is left out, and students are always encouraged to eat with different people, share in conversation, and offer feedback.

Food Related Expectations

Meals should be nutritious and well balanced. Students may not bring candy or caffeinated beverages to school. Lunches should be brought in an insulated bag/box with an ice pack as students may not have access to a refrigerator. A microwave is available for use but limited time is available so please only send items that require less than 30 seconds of warming up. Classroom teachers will go over these procedures at Open House... please do not send in heat-ups until your classroom has "opened" this option.

Classroom Snacks: Research and experience indicate that students, including adolescents benefit by having periodic snacks to meet the needs of their growing bodies. In line with brain research regarding nutrition, FSMA students may bring raw fruit, vegetables or a healthy protein from home. Students should bring a water bottle to class. Sports drinks, soda, etc. are not allowed in the classroom, only water should be brought into the classroom for general use throughout the day. For meals, students may bring other things other than water but still no sports drinks, soda or caffeinated beverages.

FSMA does have a Wellness Committee that meets throughout the year. If you are interested in joining, please reach out to Nurse Becky or Nurse Laurie. Our full Wellness Policy is located on our website.
