PAWS
Oley Valley Elementary School
Principals Update
The start of the school has been great at OVES! Over the first 3 weeks of school, students and staff have worked together to model and learn the school-wide expectations related to PAWS - Pride in Our School; Act Responsibly; Work Hard; and Show Respect. The first week of school a school-wide pep rally was held to welcome back staff and students and highlight the PAWS program at OVES. During the second and third weeks of school grade levels partnered with each other as students learned the expectations for the cafeteria, hallways, playground, bathrooms, and school bus.
This year students will only be earning Dojo points towards individual and school-wide incentives. Staff will no longer be handing out PAWS cards. The use of Dojo points in every classroom and Essentials has eliminated the need to also hand out PAWS cards.
In the upcoming weeks, OVES will stay a busy place. Students will attend an assembly hosted by Science Explorers in late September and have the opportunity in October to attend the annual Donuts with Dads event and Halloween Parade.
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, and/or celebration of OVES, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Respectfully,
Dr. Matt Broskey
Principal
Positive Bus Ride Program 2019-2020
The Positive Bus Ride program will focus on reducing the amount of bus referrals at Oley Valley Elementary School. Through goal setting and the tracking of bus referrals, the focus is to create a more positive bus experience for students and the drivers. The program will focus on the following areas: goal setting, tracking and sharing referral data with students, consistent bus expectations, and developing bus leaders.
The first phase of the program focuses on reducing the overall number of referrals for the school. As referrals are received, the program will focus on addressing common referral behaviors across all buses and the building. An individual bus or the school may work towards goals based on the number and/or type of referrals received for a bus or across all buses.
Bus behavior expectations have been developed that are in line with the school-wide expectations under the PAWS program. These expectations have been taught and modeled for the students with lessons during the first few weeks of school. The following are the bus expectations:
- Stay Seated
- Keep Hands/Feet to Self
- Keep it Clean
- Inside Volume
- Respect the Driver & Each Other
The program will also focus on developing student bus leaders who can help reinforce expectations, review goals for the bus, and take an active leadership role on the school bus. Bus leaders will be fourth and fifth grade students.
Parent Drop-Off
- Whenever possible, parents should stay in their vehicles and goodbyes should be done within the vehicle.
- At NO TIME should a vehicle go out of the parent drop-off line and pass other vehicles. Driving around other vehicles presents a major safety issue for our students.
- Please be patient, courteous, and respectful to other drivers/parents. Remember, our students are watching!
- If staff are not present and/or the doors are shut, please drive around to the front of the building to drop-off your child. Remember, after 8:45 a.m. a parent must walk their child into the front office to sign them into school
