Great Relationships Produce Great Students Great Relationships Produce Great Students

At Carl Ben Eielson, we use the BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) model to help every student feel supported and successful. BARR is a system that brings staff together to look at the whole student by working as a team to build strong relationships with students, use student data to identify strengths and areas where students may need additional support, collaborate as a team, and celebrate student strengths and successes. I encourage you to talk with your student about I-Times that happen in their core classes. These lessons help strengthen students' individual strengths as well as create a community within the classroom. Through BARR, our students are able to create relationships with other students and staff, and staff are able to work together to create opportunities for students to succeed.

Tips for Responsible Spending in the School Cafeteria

Are your lunch account funds not lasting as long as you expected? With meals, snacks, and beverages available in the school cafeteria, it can be easy for expenses to add up.

The following tips can help students make smart choices and manage their cafeteria spending. Parents may also want to review these tips with their students and discuss spending expectations to help make lunch account funds last.

The school meal, compared to snacks and bottled beverages, provides the best value because federal and state funds help offset the cost of breakfast and lunch.

Make the most of your school meal:

  • Must include at least ½ cup of fruit or vegetables for special pricing
  • Choose at least two additional meal items, such as an entrée, grain or bread item, milk, fruit, or vegetables.
  • Students may select up to five meal components: one entrée, one bread or grain side, one milk, one cup of fruit, and one cup of vegetables.

Be mindful of extra purchases:

  • Limit entrée choices to one serving. Additional entrées are $2.10 each.
  • Consider snacks and beverages as occasional purchases or purchase them when funds are available.
  • Optional items include packaged chips, crackers, cereal bars, flavored waters, and other bottled or canned beverages.

Remember: Choosing the school meal first is the best way to get a nutritious meal while making the most of your cafeteria funds!

Visit the Nutrition Services webpage for more information on school meal regulations, prices, managing lunch accounts, and applying for payment assistance.

Attendance Attendance

Regular attendance is an important piece of succeeding in school. Students are expected to be in their classes every day, except in the case of illness, school related activities, family emergency, or religious observance. It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure that their children are in school unless a valid reason for absence exists. The Attendance Office asks that a student’s absence be reported by 9:00 a.m. If a student is not accounted for they will be recorded as truant. Please review the attendance policies found in our on-line student handbook.

Entrance to the Building During School Hours Entrance to the Building During School Hours

Fargo Public Schools use a visitor management system in all of our schools to strengthen our program of campus safety for students and staff. Part of keeping students and staff safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times, and this system will allow us to do so. This system will allow us to better screen visitors, contractors, and volunteers in our schools to provide us with a safe environment for our students and staff.

Upon entering the school building, visitors will be asked to present an ID, such as a Driver’s License, which can either be scanned or manually entered into the system. If a parent or guardian for any reason does not have a US government-issued ID, the school staff member can use any form of identification and manually enter the person’s name into the system. Once entry into the building is approved, the system will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of their visit. A visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off an item in the office or pick up paperwork.

The early dismissal days for the 2026–27 school year are:

  • Wednesday, October 21
  • Wednesday, December 9

Here Comes the Bus App

Fargo Public Schools uses the Here Comes the Bus app to help families track their students who ride the bus. This free app provides real-time notifications when your child boards or disembarks the bus, ensuring you always know their travel status. FPS strongly encourages all parents to download the app and set up notifications for added peace of mind. To set up Here Comes the Bus on your phone, click these instructions.

Students in grades K-5 who ride the bus will receive a bar-coded card that will be attached to their backpack and students in grades 6-12 will use a student ID card or input their lunch number on a bus keypad. Students need to scan their card each time they get on and off the bus. This scanning process allows FPS to confirm, in real-time, that the student is safely on the bus or has exited at the correct stop. This extra step is a critical part of ensuring the safety of all students.
