RMS Monday Message

School begins tomorrow and we are very excited to begin the '23-'24 School Year at Rombout Middle School! The school is clean and sanitized (thank you Custodial Staff!), the parking lot construction is complete (awesome!), the students have their schedules (thank you Guidance!) and the classrooms/hallways are looking great (thank you faculty and staff!). Now, all we need are our students to walk into the doors and the first bell to ring on a new school year!

We wish everyone a relaxing Labor Day and a great start to the school year ahead!

Here are a few reminders/notes to help with the first day of school!

1 - The Transportation Department mailed home bus route information. For the first few days of school, students should arrive at their bus stop ten minutes before the scheduled time of their stop.

2 - View the information in the next section below regarding bell schedules for RMS.

3 - If you plan on dropping off your student in the morning, we ask that you use the Kiosk Parking Lot (the lot with the Flag Pole). Note that our Kiosk Lot and Mattaewan does get backed up in the morning. Please plan accordingly and leave a few minutes earlier than you otherwise would. We ask that you pull up as far as you can in the loop when dropping off. Security, Administration, and Faculty will be assisting with this process. The bus loop parking lot is strictly for busses to drop off/pick up students and faculty/staff parking. Please do not use this lot for dropping off or picking up your student.

4 - 6th grade dismissal is at 2:39pm and 7th/8th grade dismissal is at 2:42pm. Busses typically leave RMS at 2:50pm. Please give a few extra minutes for busses to arrive home the first few days of school. If picking up your student at dismissal, you may utilize the Kiosk lot. Please do not use the bus/faculty lot.

5 - Tomorrow is an "A" Day!

Doors at Rombout Middle School open at 7:50am for students to eat breakfast and then again at 8am for all students. The first period bell for 6th graders is at 8:10am and at 8:14am for 7th and 8th graders. Students who arrive after this time would be considered late and should report to the Attendance Office for a late pass.

For your planning needs, below is the district calendar for the 2023-2024 school year!

Girls in Sports Day 2023 will be Saturday, 9/23! Girls at RMS in grades 6-8 are strongly encouraged to attend this event! Our Varsity Coaches and players will be running mini clinics for all the sports that Beacon Athletics has to offer. This is a great opportunity to get involved and try many different sports in one day. Girls will be separated by age and all equipment will be provided. Lunch and a T-Shirt is included in the registration fee. See the flyer below for information on how to register. Any questions, feel free to contact giametta.j@beaconk12.org

Modified practices begin on or after September 11, 2023 besides Modified Football which begins Tuesday, September 5th. Students will not be authorized to begin practice unless they are registered to Family ID. Family ID opened on August 14th for modified athletes and students will not be allowed to participate in sports until their registration has been approved. Questions on FamilyID and/or needed physicals should be directed to Nurse Amber Klemann (klemann.a@beaconk12.org) for Modified Sports.

Picture day will be 9/20 and picture retakes will be 10/25. Students will go down in their English classes for pictures. Order forms will be handed out the first week of school. Pictures can be ordered online at www.Upstate-Images.com with the online code: Rombout23. If ordering using the picture form, please bring the completed form on picture day and hand to the photographer.

We are in the process of compiling all Club Information (Advisors, Meeting Dates, etc.) and will relay this info to the RMS Community soon. However, we do have two club updates to share!

1) The first National Junior Honor Society meeting will be after school on Tuesday, September 12 in room D135. All 8th graders that were inducted last year should attend. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Paredes.

2) Esports Fall Season begins In October. Tryouts start Tuesday, September 26th. Information to come soon. Any questions, see/email Mr. Junjulas.

The UsAgain 2023 Battle of the Schools Challenge is taking place from September 1-30!

Help support our Environmental club by donating your unwanted clothing to the UsAgain bins outside of RMS! Schools who collect the most clothing have the opportunity to win cash prizes. Every pound of clothing counts!

Welcome to the Rombout PTO section of the Monday Message. We will keep you updated with all events, fundraisers, or any possible volunteer needs we may have. Our first PTO Meeting of the Year will be on Wednesday, 9/13 at 5:45pm, right before Back to School Night in the RMS Library. Please consider coming to the meeting to meet other members of the PTO within the community!
