December 8, 2024 December 8, 2024

Good Morning,

We are busy getting ready for the holiday stroll and looking forward to the Parent Council's Holiday Shopping event. See below a preview of some of the classroom doors and hallways. There is so much excitement in the air this month.

December is a time that students are learning all about community. Read alouds include stories such as: What is in our community? The Two Promise Walk, and What do Workers Do in my Community.

We are so excited to report that students have a read a total of 3, 721 books, to date. Keep up the good work! Literacy is such a crucial component to future academic success. We thank our families for partnering with us so that we can help our students reach the goal of 10, 000 books read by the end of June.

Safety:

We ask that parents, guardians or anyone you place on your child's pick up list have a picture ID with them. As we get to know our families and caregivers, we may ask for an ID, to verify our caregivers.

Car seat Safety:

All children riding in passenger motor vehicles must be in a federally approved child passenger restraint that is properly fastened and secured according to the manufacturer's instructions until they are 8 years old OR over 57 inches tall.

When children outgrow their booster seats (usually around age 8, but more importantly, when they are taller than 57 inches), they must wear a seat belt that is properly adjusted and fastened according to the manufacturer's instructions until the age of 13.

WECC Parent Council News

Parent Council will host our annual Winter Workshop on Wednesday, December 18th, and Thursday, December 19th. The Winter Workshop is an opportunity for students to “shop” during school for holiday gifts for their loved ones – it’s always fun to see what they pick out! ALL STUDENTS will “shop” and take home four gifts, for four loved ones of their choosing (parents, grandparents, siblings, pets, aunts/uncles, cousins - their choice!).

How you can help!

Donations of gift items for the shop: Non-food items that make inexpensive/fun gifts for family and friends. Examples: fuzzy socks, notepads, decks of cards, mini flashlights,

stationery, nail care kits, potholders, dish towels, handmade craft items, holiday ornaments,
cat and dog toys, etc. Dollar Tree, Target’s Bullseye Section, and Ocean State Job Lot are great
places to shop for such items.

Volunteers during school shopping hours: Volunteers are needed to assist students shopping, and with wrapping of the gifts for children to take home. All volunteers must have a CORI

form filled out at the Weymouth Public Schools Administration Building. You may also
complete a CORI form at WECC (not during morning drop-off, please). You will need your ID.
If you would like to volunteer, please email weccparentcouncil@gmail.com.

The next parent council meeting is Tuesday, January 14 at 5:30 PM. All are welcome to attend!

About this Series

The Backpack Connection Series was created by TACSEI to provide a way for teachers and parents/caregivers to work together to help young children develop social emotional skills and reduce challenging behavior.

Each Backpack Connection handout provides information that helps parents stay informed about what their child is learning at school and specific ideas on how to use the strategy or skill at home

I'm a Super Reader

Help us reach our goal of 10,000 books

One of the most important gifts we can give our children is to help them learn to read and write so that they can succeed in school and beyond. Confident, active readers are able to use their reading skills to follow their passions and curiosity about the world. We all read for a purpose: to be entertained, to take a journey of the imagination, to connect with others, to figure out how to do something, and to learn about history, science, the arts, and everything else.

We hope to foster the love of reading in our students. Please help us by helping your child read each day. Attached is a reading chart that your child can color each time they read a book. Bring the reading chart to school once all apples are colored and your child will receive a Super Reader sticker. You may choose to only read 10 books per month or submit as many reading charts as you want. We will be keeping track by classroom. If JECC students reach the goal of 10,000 books, we will have a Bubble party at the end of the year.

Help our students reach their goal!
