A Message from Principal Ballard
🦉 Growing, Learning & SOARing at Winchester Avenue!
At Winchester Avenue Elementary, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to grow, learn, and succeed! We care about your child’s growth—not only academically, but also in developing strong, kind character. We want our students to become confident learners who make good choices, show kindness, and always do their best.
📚 Vocabulary Matters!
This year, we are placing a special focus on vocabulary development. Learning new words helps children become stronger readers, better writers, and more confident communicators. Our teachers are working hard to introduce important vocabulary, discuss word meanings, and give students opportunities to use new words throughout their lessons.
You may notice our Word of the Week posters throughout the building and our new Word Wall near the cafeteria! These resources help students see, review, and practice the words they are learning. We encourage you to ask your child about the words they are learning at school. Have them explain what the words mean, use them in a sentence, or look for opportunities to use those words at home!
🏡 How Can Families Help?
You can support your child’s learning by reading together, talking about unfamiliar words, asking questions about what they are learning, and encouraging them to explain their thinking. Even a few minutes of conversation each day can make a difference!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we can help our students grow academically, develop strong character, and reach their full potential. We are proud of our Winchester Avenue Owls and all the ways they continue to SOAR!
Keep SOARing, Owls! 🦉💛

October is National Children's Health Month
This month is a time to focus on helping children stay healthy, safe, and happy. It reminds us that healthy children need nutritious food, physical activity, good sleep, emotional support, and safe environments where they can learn and grow.
At Winchester Ave, we are committed to helping every owl be healthy, safe, and ready to SOAR!
